Conquering Utah’s Excellent Slopes

Utah claims to have the best snow on earth as it mentions on its license plates. The dry powdery slopes are favorites among many snow sports fanatics.

There are plenty of ski resorts in Utah. Here are some that have been reviewed and selected as popular choices close to the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Just west of Colorado, Utah has several great options for snow vacations like its seven different mountains right near Salt Lake City, that is less than 40 miles from the airport. There are even many areas with two or more resorts under an hour away from landing like Snowbasin and Powder Mountain.

Each Utah resort includes great snow with reviews for its great dry and light qualities. Some even call it “champagne powder.”

You can also get a fast track to the slopes. Dozens of cities have direct flights to SLC, and once you arrive, you are only under an hour’s drive away from the slopes.

You are also guaranteed a large variety between the nine Utah resorts. You can get very different experiences amongst all the options as well as two “ski only” resorts that do not allow other sports such as snowboarding in their parks as a treat to skiers.

Visitors who want to sample multiple mountains while they are in town could find affordable lodgings in Salt Lake City and ski or board at a different spot each day. Advanced skiers can take an Interconnect Tour of up to six mountains in one day alone.

Also, for families, several resorts have “Kids Ski Free” passes for ages six and under, and a $10 price for kids ages 7 to 10. All these resorts have kids’ ski schools and other programs for even adults to learn how to improve their abilities on the slopes.

However, you want to be sure to book ahead during popular times of the year. For example, kids programs fill up quickly at many resorts.

You should also know that many get altitude sickness symptoms such as headaches that are typically mild and disappear in a few days. This happens with a base elevation at 8530′ which is an average for the resorts in Utah.

The Little Cottonwood Canyon has two resorts, Snowbird which is thirty miles from the airport and Alta which is 32 miles away from the airport. Snowbird has 2,500 skiable acres, a 3240′ vertical drop and more than 89 runs with a base elevation of 7,760 feet.

It has a small slope side pedestrian village and often offers Kids Free deals. Alta is also a local favorite, but it is for skiers only.

It is top rated in snow quality for its dry light snow, and it includes 116 runs, 2200 acres, 2020 vertical drop and a base elevation of 8530 feet. It has an old style lodge and a daycare called Children’s Ski Adventure Center.

Then, the Big Cottonwood Canyon has two resorts also, Solitude and No prescription cialis Brighton which are 33 and 35 miles from the airport respectively. Brighton has 66 runs, 1050 acres, a 1745 vertical drop and a base elevation of 8,755 feet.

Solitude has 64 runs and a total of 1,200 acres. It also has an attractive village with ski in and ski out condos and inn, restaurants, grocery store, ice rink, club house with heated outdoor pool and whirlpools, theatre that shows family movies, game rooms and a lounge.

Park City Mountain Resort offers a Town Lift that is actually in the historic part of Park City, Utah. It has over 104 runs with 3,300 skiable acres and six pack lifts.

It is only 37 miles from the Salt Lake City airport. It offers four terrain parks and an Olympic Superpipe.

Deer Valley is close by with 90 runs and 1,750 acres. This is the second skiers’ only spot with top of the line services.

Only 36 miles from the airport, it offers a Tricks n’ Turns Terrain Park for family fun with features for novices. This is a great spot for the family.

Also, The Canyons is Utah’s largest ski and snowboard resort with over 152 runs, 3,700 skiable acres and 8 peaks. It has great lodging and other accommodations as well.
