Considering Playing Roulette? Let’s Have A Look Through The Bets You Can Place

Whether you’re playing roulette online or in a traditional bricks and mortar casino, you can make a selection of bets, all which can be divided up and placed into one of two categories, known as inside bets and outside bets.

Starting with inside bets, which are those that have greater odds as they’re more difficult to place and win, there are 8 different bets available under this umbrella term.

1. Basket – varying depending on whether you’re playing American or European roulette, a basket bet asks for you to put a chip across the intersection of 1, 2 and 0 or 2, 3 and 0 if you’re playing European roulette, but adds the opportunity to place it across 00, 2 and 3 or 0, 00 and 2 as well, should you be playing the American variation. Has a payout of 11/1.

2. Corner – also known as a square, this bet is made by placing a chip on an intersection of 4 separate squares and which pays out at 8/1 should the roulette ball land on any of the 4 numbers.

3. Street – a bet that covers three horizontal numbers, such 1, 2 and 3. To place this bet, which pays out at 11/1, put a chip on the bottom of the horizontal line that crosses all three numbers.

4. Six Line – two separate street bets rolled into one, a six line allows you to place one chip across six adjoining numbers (for example, 1, 2 and 3 and 4, 5 and 6). Pays out at a rate of 5/1.

5. Split – a simple bet to make, chose two vertically or horizontally adjoining numbers and place a chip across them. Pays out at 17/1.

6. Straight up – the easiest bet to make in roulette, it pays out at 35/1 and all you have to do is place your chip completely within one number.

7. Trio – a bet only used on European roulette tables, it is placed by putting a chip on the intersection between 0, 1 and 2 or 0, 2 and 3. Has a pay out rate of 11/1.

8. Top line – usually only available in American roulette, this bet covers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 and is made by placing a chip on the corner of the 0 and 1 spots (or the 00 and 3 spots).

In terms of outside bets, there are 6 different choices for you to choose from.

1. 1 to 18 – place your chips in this square and you’ll receive an even pay out if the roulette ball lands on a number between (and inclusive of) 1 and 18.

2. 19 to 36 – the same as above, but with the numbers on the second half of the board, 19 to 36.

3. Even / Odd – by putting your chips on either the even or odd square, you’ll get an even pay out if the ball lands on an even or odd number.

4. Red / Black – as with the even / odd option, place your chips in the red or black square and the house will pay out evens should the roulette ball land on a red or black spot.

5. First, second or third dozen – paying out at 2/1, put your money on the first, second or third dozen squares to receive your winnings should the roulette ball land between 1 and 12, 13 and 24 or 25 and 36.

6. Columns – allowing you to make a bet on another 12 numbers, this time you’re betting on the numbers ranging from 1, 2 or 3 through to 34, 35 or 36. Pays out at 2/1.

If you’ve never played roulette online or offline before, it can be easy to think that there are only one or two different bets that you can make, most notably picking a single number or choosing whether the ball is going to land on a red or black spot. When looking into it in more detail, however, it is apparent there are over a dozen bets that you can make to enhance your chances of winning money when playing roulette.
