Getting Started on a Snowboard

Denver is a beautiful area in the Western United States with great mountains. Many people frequent the area for the purpose of snowboarding.

If you are trying to get into the popular winter sport, here is a list of some things you will need before you get started in a great place like Denver. These are simply suggestions, and you may need more of less of particular things to suit your individual needs.

Learning to snowboard can be a bit difficult, frustrating and even scary for those with no experience with winter sports, but it does not have to be. With some preparation and a positive attitude, you can learn to snowboard and start out a lifetime of fun and excitement on the mountainous slopes in Denver.

Once you get the hang of it, you will be shredding down the runs in little to no time at all. If it is your first time on a snowboard, then you should rent a board and boots. There is no point in investing in all that equipment until you are sure this is a sport you want to stick with.

As far as clothing, you should be sure to wear warm, comfortable clothing. Snowboarders spend a good amount of time sitting on the ground, so waterproof snowboard pants are very necessary.

You will definitely need a snowboard, some boots, a backpack or duffel bag for your gear, goggles or sunglasses, a helmet and wrist guards. This is important because Cotton retains moisture which leads to a cold and wet experience on the mountain. The undergarments are important for keeping in warmth and keeping you comfortable.

You will also need a good pair of gloves or mittens; you may even want to bring two pairs in case one gets wet. It is important to keep your hands dry and warm; otherwise, you will be miserable.

You may also want a mid layer on top like a turtleneck or sweatshirt, depending on the weather conditions. You will also need a good pair of winter socks, maybe even two pairs if one gets wet, but only wear one at a time as two will bunch up in your boot and cause discomfort.

Usually socks that are made of wool are the best for the sport. They are warm, stay dryer and will not slide around in your boots.

Your pants should of course be insulated and waterproof while your jacket should be likewise. If it is especially windy and cold, you will want to bring a neck gaiter to keep your neck and chin warm.

You may also want a winter hat or a helmet liner. Dressing in layers is always going to be the best choice.

This way, you can always add or remove layers depending on the weather. Such adjustments will keep you the most comfortable.

There are many other accessories and add ons you can also bring. They make hand and foot warmers for you to put inside your gloves and socks for extra heat.

You can also bring lip balm as your lips may chap from the wind and cold air conditions. Sunscreen is also a good idea as the sun will be on your face.

For your goggles, you will want to bring a bandana or chamois to wipe them clean if they get snow on them or other things. You can also a use a bandana to hang over your face to keep it warm.

This is pretty much the only gear you will need to get started and continue on with your snowboarding goals. Some places, however, do require a leash which is to keep the board attached to your leg or boot in the case of ejection.

So, check with the resorts you will be boarding at to see what they require. Then, you are good to go.
