Mold, Mold, Go Away!

Mold Cialis prevention is not as simple as it may look, and according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the most valuable way of preventing mold growth is by controlling moisture levels in your home.

It’s safe to say that most people think they understand mold, and therefore think that they can fix their mold problem with a sponge and some soap. That may not be as effective as some may think.

Have you ever seen the movie, The Santa Clause, with Tim Allen starring as Santa? He has a bit of difficulty accepting his new job as being Santa, so he tries to hide the way his body is changing; such as a belly, and especially his beard. So, he shaves his beard, but by the time he turns back around and looks at the mirror again, it’s grown back.

This is probably similar to the shock and frustration homeowners feel when they use the typical mold removal tactics — they wash the mold off the wall, and the next day it’s back! Or worse, they think the mold is gone, so they don’t check on it for a couple weeks only to find much more mold than there was in the beginning!

See the problem? There needs to be a better understanding of mold and how to get rid of the root, not just what’s on the surface.

Mold Profile

According to the EPA mold lives on things that were once living such as decaying matter, plants, wood, or soil. Mold can only survive if they are ingesting organic or plant materials. So, in a way, without mold our outdoor environment would have an abundance of dead plant matter.

Now outside, mold is somewhat bearable. Or, at least now we can say we understand why mold even exists. But, when mold projects its spores into the air and those spores find their way into our homes, that’s when the mold has left their side of the line and gone too far. They infiltrate our homes, or at least those moist places such as our basements and crawlspaces. As the mold grows, it eats whatever it can find, and in a sense, they are destroying whatever they are eating; your basement or crawlspace.

You must prevent the moisture and humidity in your home, or you are providing a great habitat for mold to come in and take over your living space. Not only that, but mold can also make you sick.

Mold Sensitivity

For some, mold is just another weird thing that isn’t worth bothering or removing. But, for those of us who are extra-sensitive to mold, you know the effects that the stuff has on your body, and it’s not pretty!

You can expect to have: a stuffy nose; irritated throat, eyes, and skin; coughing and wheezing. And, if you have a mold allergy you can expect a heightened list of symptoms.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) discovered that mold can cause symptoms that correlate with upper respiratory tract infections such as coughing and wheezing. They also found mold to be a cause of some asthma symptoms and immune-mediated diseases.

In other words, the leaders of the top governmental health agencies agree that mold bothers a lot of peoples’ health. Mold can only be completely removed from your home through appropriate moisture control- so what’s stopping you?

The Air and Moisture in Your Basement

Did you know that about 40 percent of the air you breathe while on the first floor of your home is actually the air from your basement or crawl space? It’s true. This air is a result of the stack effect. Air comes in through the areas of your home with low air pressure such as your basement, and flows into the higher levels of your home, then back outside.

As for the moisture in your basement, it comes from the moisture in the ground and the outside air. So, in order to prevent your basement from having enough moisture to grow mold, you have to keep unconditioned outside air out and provide proper dehumidification for the space.
