Visit Philadelphia All Year Long

Whether you are headed to Philadelphia for a trip or you are a local, you are probably looking for something fun to do. This city has many historic attractions, museums and other unique things to see and do.

However, did you know this city also hosts a wide variety of annual events? No matter what time of year it is, there is always something exciting happening in Philadelphia.

Starting in January all the way through December, you are sure to find something to do. In January start off the first day of the year, New Years Day, with a celebration.

On this day spectators will be able to sit and watch the Mummers Parade. Also during the month of January is Chinese New Year which takes place in Chinatown.

Enjoy dragon parades, fireworks, and a lantern festival which ends the celebration. For car lovers, February is a great month due to the Philadelphia International Car Show.

This show features more than 700 vehicles. Also in February is a Mardi Gras celebration.

Heading into March is an event called Manayunk in Bloom. This event takes place at Pretzel Park and features an Easter egg scramble.

It also highlights the many boutiques, galleries and restaurants on Main Street. Also during March are the St. Patrick’s Day parade, and the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Another fun way to celebrate Easter is by checking out the Spring Splash on South Street. This annual event has participants parade down the street in Easter bonnets.

May is a packed month with the Kamagra Soft Broad Street Run, the Annual Canal Day, the Dad Vail Regatta, Jam on the River, and the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival. In June you can attend the State Street Blues Stroll, the Manayunk Arts Festival, and the African American Cultural Festival.

For the Fourth of July you may want to celebrate by attending Sunoco Welcome America. This event starts a week before the Fourth of July and has a few different firework shows.

Also in July are the Dragon Boat races. In August one fun thing to do is attend an Eagles football game.

Their opener game for the season always happens in August. Then in September have an enjoyable time at the Labor Day celebration.

Usually during this time there are concerts and other festivities. September also hosts a few artistic festivals including the Museum of Art Rodin Garden Party, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and the Popnoise Festival.

A few other cultural events in September are the Puerto Rican Week Festival Parade, the Annual Sippin’ by the River, and the German-American Steuben Parade. Start off October by checking out the Columbus Day Parade.

This parade takes place each year on the second Sunday in October. A few other exciting events during the month of October include the Fishtown River Festival which features food, music and children’s activities; the Philly Neighborhood Food Week, the Philadelphia College Festival, and the Bridesmaid’s Ball.

November is an exciting month with the Thanksgiving Parade. This parade started in 1920 and was the nation’s first Thanksgiving Day parade.

It now lasts more than three hours and features marching bands and floats. Plus a special visit from Santa Claus at the end of the parade.

It is a great way to start the holiday season. Then head over to the Philadelphia Holiday Festival, which provides even more holiday fun.

The festival starts Thanksgiving Day and goes until New Years. Also during the month of November is the Philadelphia Marathon.

Heading into December you can continue to celebrate the holidays in Philly by visiting the Holiday Light Show. This light show started in 1956 and has been a tradition ever since.

Enjoy beautiful lights, water fountains and music at this fun event. Another December event is the 12th Night Celebration Dinner.

Guests will enjoy singing, dancing and entertainment. The last event of the year is the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Many activities make up this celebration; however, the focal point is truly the fireworks on the Delaware at midnight. It is a great way to end the year and to look forward to the next year.

As you can see, Philadelphia hosts a wide variety of events. So no matter what time of year you are there, you are sure to have a great time!
