The Causes of Back Pain

Back pain can be caused from a variety of things. Often people do not know what causes it. It can range from the upper back all the way down the spine to the lower back and is often associated with the neck, leg and arm pain. It can be caused by almost anything and most times people never find out the cause. Some of the most popular things that cause it are spinal issues, injuries, infections and tumors. This article will give more insight on these various reasons for your back problems.

There are many spinal issues that can lead to problems. The most common spinal issue that triggers discomfort is scoliosis. Scoliosis is a disorder that causes curvature. When it is not correctly positioned on your back, pain most likely will arise. Mechanical problems with your spine can also occur. An example of a mechanical issue is the way it moves in connection to human movements. Sometimes it will move in the wrong direction and this can cause you to slip a disk. When a disk is misplaced the chances are that you will experience intense aching.

Injuries are the most common source of problems that people have with their backs. Injuries such as strains, sprains and fractures can cause chronic pain or short-term aches. There are many ways to cause injury to the back. Physical sports such as football and falling are the two of the most reported causes of back sprains and strains. It can also lead to spinal issues which make back pain even worse.

Infections are the least frequent cause. People that experience infections in the back most likely have a disorder called osteomyelitis. Osteomyelitis can be acute or continual and can cause nausea and swelling as well as back problems. The infections are rare but can be serious. When infections are not treated they can spread or become increasingly worse.

Tumors also are not common. Tumors in the back are usually a side effect of cancer. On occasion, tumors can form but this is very rare. With most types of cancer tumors are spreadable. When they do spread it is likely that they will end up on the back, in turn, causing discomfort. They can be removed off of the back, however, this is a delicate procedure. If it is in the wrong spot the chances of becoming paralyzed during the procedure increase.

All of these issues are causes discomfort and it can exist in anyone. A common myth is that it only occurs in people over the age of 60. At the age of 60 you are likely to begin experiencing it but in most cases it has already been experienced. It is known to be most common in adults under the age of 60 because they are more active and susceptible to spinal injury. Your injuries should never be ignored. Although it is not always possible to find the source of the back aches, attention is required.
