What to Expect From Camping in Brittany

Brittany has a very pronounced Celtic culture, more so than any other French region. Before the 16th century Brittany was an autonomous country. It has very close ties to the Celtic Britain also. The language spoken here is called Breton and you will find Celtic music, art, storytelling and religious festivals occurring regularly all over the town. At the standing stones of Carnac you will find remnants of the history of the town. There are some menhirs there that are thought to be over 5000 years old. There are many campsites close to this area and many other historical sites to see along the coast.

If you want to see some medieval sights there are many in Brittany. There is the medieval abbey at Mont St. Michel. This comes out of the tidal island and it makes for a spectacular view from above. The town of Vannes has much of the town’s older architecture such as a number of churches a cathedral and a chateau.

There are lovely beaches that are long and spectacular and are the main attraction for the holiday makers that come here each year. You will find many towering cliffs along the beaches which make it a nice frame for the beautiful waters and beautiful seas. Along the Breton coast you will see beautiful rock formations.

Going on camping holiday in Brittany will give you access to many of these beaches. You can find a lot of campsites along the coastline where you can enjoy water sports and boating as well as you can just relax in the sun if that is your idea of a good day and a good vacation.

Brittany is well known for the good food that is served up in the town. There is especially a superb quality of seafood which you just must try once you are in the town. One speciality is oysters but you can also enjoy crab, scallops, crayfish and shrimp. There is what is known as the Breton seafood platter which is served at a number of restaurants in the area. If you just cant do without desert then try the Breton Crepes which are stuffed with sweet or savoury fillings that will just get your mouth watering from the mere sight.

In Brittany Cider is the drink of choice and is preferred more than wine. You may find this strange in France but this is one little town that doesn’t live up to the wine drinking norm. That doesn’t say that you can’t get wine here but you should also try some of the famous Breton Cider.

If you’re looking at France as a potential holiday resort for your family this Summer, then consider Brittany as one of the locations to visit. With a great history, fantastic food, and wide range of things to see and do with your family, there aren’t many other places that can offer a good as an experience as either North or South Brittany – both equally good for different reasons!
