Latin American Coffee Industry Update

Connoisseurs everywhere enjoy the taste and aroma of Latin American specialty coffee. As a matter of fact, a vast majority of gourmet coffees originate from this part of the world. Coffee trees flourish the most in mountainous areas that have volcanic soil and plenty of shade. Latin America happens to have all of the components necessary to produce the highest quality beans possible. These countries are now benefiting quite a bit from the popularity of organic coffee.

Most coffee from this region will be light bodied with at least a medium acidity. The South American region has several different areas that are ideal for growing coffee, including Brazil and Columbia. There are plenty of lesser know areas in Latin America that produce some amazing coffee, it’s just a matter of finding it!

Columbian coffee is one that most people from America have heard of. This is due in part to the media and the various campaigns throughout the last several decades. These beans are harvested only after multiple steps have been taken for processing, and there are some very high standards in this regard. As a result, there are some truly excellent coffee beans coming out of this region, and this area is recognized worldwide for producing some of the world’s greatest specialty coffee.

There are also many remarkable coffees that come out of Brazil. Due to the fact that their beans are picked during their first year of the growth process, they do tend to be a bit smaller. However, they still offer a flavor that is very rich and smooth.

Everyone has different tastes when it comes to what type of flavor, aroma and acidity they prefer in their coffee. For this reason, you may find yourself having to try several different coffees before you get a feel for what you really like the most. If you like coffee that is lower in acidity, you may like Venezuelan coffee. It is actually used for blending in a lot of other coffees. Do not assume that this means Venezuelan coffee lacks quality, because that is certainly not the case. It’s just that it is ideal for blending because it is highly complementary in taste to other blends.

If you try coffee from Bolivia you can expect a slightly spicy taste that is full bodied. In this area most of the coffee beans are grown on small single owner farms. Bolivia is one of the countries that actually produce a great deal of organic coffee.

You can’t forget about Caribbean coffee either. Everyone loves Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee! This blend of coffee tends to be a bit milder, and it will usually lack bitterness. However, this coffee does tend to get a little bit on the expensive side because of the fact that the beans are not only high in quality, but they are also scarce.

There are so many different Latin American countries that produce high quality specialty coffee that you will no doubt be able to find many different blends to satisfy your own personal taste!
