Retail is a highly competitive business. It is mostly but, not exclusively, the retail industry that needs to incorporate this practice. The need for guidance when setting up and implementing a merchandising plan is important for the small corner shop, as well as, huge corporations. You want to put yourself in the best position possible to gain every dollar of the gigantic retail market.

Here are some basic principals to adhere to if you want to do this yourself or implement this in your corporation. Think of a stage play. Part of the experience of theater is the set or backdrop that the actors are performing in front of. Do what ever you can to show off your products. The bottom line is to get and keep their attention long enough that they decide to spend their money.

When displaying products, think about stacking them in small groups of 3, only. This is important as the human eye looks for a focal point. Also, do not squish items too closely together. Give them space. Studies show that it takes a customer 7 times seeing a product before they decide to buy it.
