Tourism is the world’s biggest growing industry, it is a very attractive way, for many countries, to achieve economic groth. Other advantageous aspects are the creation of employments, the coming of foreign investments and the creation of new infrastructure.

In industrialized countries (three-quarters of international tourists come from there) the number of departures for holiday destinations, for a while slowed by the crisis, rose again. The demand is focused on new formulas, more distant destinations. The demand for quality has become more pressing. European countries can no longer offer mediocre tourism products to their citizens, they will have to improve their services if they want to retain tourists increasingly attracted to tropical islands. Mediterranean countries have the same problem, they captured the tourism industry but the crowded beaches, the degradation of the sites and higher prices make their position weaker when facing the competition with the new popular destinations. The progress margin of tourism seems the strongest out of the circle of Western countries. The political and economic opening of Eastern countries is promising, but the modernization will take time.
