San Cristobal Cigars

San Cristobal Cigars have a relatively short history compared to the world\’s long standing pleasurable relationship with this product. San Cristobal Cigars are descendents of the smoking leaves that came onto the scene in world history after the famous Christopher Columbus discovery of the Americas.

Many natives at the time were smoking the forerunner to this modern product. They wrapped the tobacco in plantain or palm leaves, however.

The habit slowly caught on in Europe after a few years. Since that time, the tobacco leaf, the growing of it, and the rolling of it has evolved into a scientific art form.

From growing to rolling, care in each step of the process leads to superior products. Seeds are sorted and chosen to produce certain colors and flavors.

The soil where the crops grow is also an integral part of the ultimate quality of the San Cristobal cigars. This determines the color of the ash and the overall appeal of the crafted leaves to smoking enthusiasts. These facts are well known to the renowned grower and producer of tobacco, the Cuban-born Don Jose Pepin Garcia.

Traditionally, Ashton has had a working relationship with the Fuente family in the production of cigars. Their working relationship had produced some quality smoking pleasures.

For the San Cristobal cigars, however, Ashton felt the need to work with a partner that has the current capacity to take them to another level with the product, Don Pepin. The famous San Cristobal label was purchased by Ashton in the 1980s and obtained trademark status in the United States in the mid 1990s.

However, Ashton did not pursue the development of a product under this name until the 2000s. After partnering with Don Pepin, Ashton felt they were able to put a product on the market worthy of this famous name in the volume that was desired.

So, together they chose a purely Nicaraguan production. The seeds originate in Cuba and are grown in the black soil of Nicaragua. This is true of the filler, binder, and wrapper.

After two years of development, the product was ready to put on the market in 2007. These masterpieces of aromatic and flavor delights are created under supervision of quality control experts to ensure each piece is hand rolled to perfection.

The influence of the Cuban tradition lives on in the Cuban Triple-Cap made as the finishing touch. The result is a full strength maduro with complex flavors in an appealing dark wrapper. And, as if to announce to the world the advent of a new, courageous line of cigar, a brightly colored, flashy band with a parrot on it greets the consumer\’s eye at first meeting.

Though it took a few years to get this brand to market, the wait was well worth it. However, in comparison to a few hundred years of tobacco smoking history, the time it took was insignificant. The patience of Ashton and the skill of Don Pepin combined to create a quality new product, San Cristobal cigars, for connoisseurs of tobacco products everywhere.
