Different Methods For Getting Whiter Teeth

Having whiter teeth will improve your image and may increase your self-confidence. There are different methods a person can choose from to make their teeth whiter. Listed a below are four different teeth whitening options to choose from starting with the easiest ending with the most difficult.

Whitening tooth pastes are made to get ride stains on the surface of your teeth to return them to their original color. Using whitening toothpaste is a good idea to maintain the color after using either whitening strips or a whitening kit.

Whitening strips are little strips that you peel from a wrapper and place on both your top and bottom teeth and leave on for a certain amount of time depending on the brand. Whitening strips come in different strengths to suite people with sensitive teeth. The stronger the strips the less time you need to keep them on. You need to be committed to applying the strips for anywhere from 10 days to 2 weeks depending on the brand. The results last up to six months.

Whitening kits come with a bite tray that looks a lot like a two sided mouth guard and whitening paste. First you place the recommended amount of whitening paste into the bite tray then place the tray in your mouth biting down with both your top and bottom teeth. You need to hold this position to leave the whitening paste on your teeth for the recommended amount of time for the specific product. Some products come with a specialized light that you place over your teeth to activate the whitening paste. It’s important to continue treatment for the recommended amount of time; some products require applying the treatment twice a day. Results will last up to 6 months.

Professional teeth whitening are the most costly but quickest option for whitening your teeth. The dentist will apply a protective gel coat to your gums, then apply a professional strength peroxide whitening gel to your teeth. The principle is much the same used for whitening kits but for public safety reasons the whitening gel used in the kits are much weaker. Not all dentists use the exact same methods though they are similar. For example some may choose to use a paste only treatment while others will use a method requiring a laser light to be placed over the teeth. For patients with really bad stains or severely discolored teeth multiple sessions may be needed.

All these methods have been proven to work to different degrees but it’s wise to start with the easiest method and work your way down the list as needed. Whitening strips and whitening pastes are very similar methods that it would be redundant to move from one to the other for better results. It would be a waste of time and money to have to schedule an appointment with a dentist when all you really needed was to change the type of tooth paste you use.
