Mens Summer Fashion – Vests or T Shirts?

Fashion trends change from one year to the next. For the fashion conscious, knowing what styles are in fashion each season is a must so that they can select their wardrobes carefully. Even those who are less fashion conscious are often keen to know what they are likely to see on the high streets. This Summer is no different and many people will be wondering what to buy for their Summer wardrobe. Should it be a T shirt or a vest? The catwalks have offered a lot of inspiration for what is available on the high street and what consumers are looking for this Summer.

This year it is definitely the vest that is in fashion, and the shorter the better. Crop top style vests are back in fashion for Spring and Summer 2012. It’s a style that has been showcased by many designers during this year’s London Fashion Week, by both well established designers and upcoming designers, and it is a trend that is not just for the catwalk, but is also available for the regular shopper.

For women, fitted style vests that show off the female form in bold colours, such as reds and yellows, and floral print vests are a must for this season. Vests are featured in the new collections of both House of Fraser and Karen Millen, for daywear, work wear and evening wear.

For men, white vests of various designs were a style favoured by Dolce & Gabbana for their finale at Milan Men’s Fashion Week. The fit of the vests for men tends to be of a looser design than those for women and more suited to casual wear. Other colour options for vests that are key colours in men’s clothing this Summer are grey, charcoal and black .

However, cropped vests are not a style that suits everybody. For those with a less than perfect midriff or poorly toned upper arms, it may be a style that you would wish to avoid. For others, it is merely a choice not to flash the flesh.

It doesn’t really matter because the T shirt is a great alternative. Although vests are more on trend right now, T shirts have never really been out of fashion. It is a style that offers comfort and can hide a multitude of sins and is always available, wherever you shop. T shirts are a great casual choice for both men and women. Another point to consider is that during the hotter Summer months, a T shirt offers greater coverage of the shoulders, an area that is often prone to sunburn.

Overall, whether you want to keep up with fashion or opt for a style that has never been out of fashion in the first place, the choice is entirely yours and both designers and the high street have plenty to offer their customers in both styles. Whether you choose vests or T shirts is ultimately down to which style you prefer and what suits your personal taste and body shape.
