Physical Fitness, Here Are My Thoughts

It’s funny… whenever the topic of health and fitness comes up, what pops into your head will be the plethora of programs that are being sold by an even greater number of companies that make the claim that an individual can achieve optimum fitness in “X” number of days, weeks, or months. Does anyone else feel that this is a little far-fetched?

What I’ve come to understand from the 30-some-odd years that I’ve been attempting to discover that “magic formula” and become the ideal physical example of the virile man–just kidding around (almost), a very important factor has come to be abundantly obvious. There\’s no “magic” anything with regards to getting healthy and fit.

In this article is the fundamental truth as I see it. Physical fitness, overall health and general well-being all require life long effort and commitment. Now, I am aware, particularly to the internet generation today that statement will almost certainly ruffle some feathers. My apologies for that and I would also like to say I\’m sorry, upfront, for the remainder of this article… the rest of the things that I have to say might not be any less difficult to digest. But, for those who stay with me through the remainder of what I need to say and actually contemplate it, you are going to realize that everything that I say here is nothing but a typical man telling it as it is.

Lots of things go into becoming a healthy and balanced person… and allow me to clear this up right now… “healthy” doesn\’t always equal slim, toned or muscle bound. Of course, that appearance is undoubtedly an external manifestation of someone who has good health but, is certainly not a requirement for a state of well-being. A healthy man or woman might take on most any form. The exception to this rule is that: 1) Being overweight just isn\’t healthy… the truth is remaining in excess of your ideal body-weight (which varies for all of us!) taxes each and every system in your body; 2) On the opposing end of the spectrum… being emaciated is equally undesirable. This suggests that your body is not receiving the nutritional requirements that it must have to thrive and perform at its highest possible potential. So, the point is that everybody has a perfect weight for them which, many times, just isn\’t exactly what the media tells us it is.

Now that that\’s taken care of, why don\’t we discuss the number-one component that needs to be present so that you can live a healthy lifestyle and, if it is your wish, to achieve the physique of a Greek god or goddess… MINDSET! Frequently, the programs that many of us see in advertising ultimately forget about or miss this vital factor. One of my favorite quotes ever is… “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way you are right”-Henry Ford. You need to have a steely determination that it is possible to and you will be healthy and a lot of that starts with finding a purpose to become so. These reasons have as vast a range as those who create them but, all of them are correct as long as they produce the desired outcome.

I have much more to talk about on this issue but, in the interest of making this informative article something folks will read through, I am going to save that for next time. I will get much deeper into each topic that I mentioned in later article submissions. Until then, here’s to your health…
