The Benefits of Bringing in Professional Voice Talent

There are a number of reasons why a company would want to hire professional voice actors to provide voice overs, it could be the development of a video game, it could be an advertisement for radio or TV, it could even be something as simple as a telephone answer service.

Of course, some people will be reading this thinking that acting is an easy profession that they would be able to do themselves, this may be true with some individuals, but for the most part it would be an incorrect assumption. In the same way that not everyone is good looking, not everyone has a voice that piques people\’s interest and soothes them, putting them at-ease. Some people, for whatever reason, are just born to use their voice for a living.

One of the most important things to look for during voice overs is how the individual speaks with an interesting, distinctive voice. Nearly all voice over actors in animated motion pictures for example, have very distinctive voices that are instantly recognizable as their own, none of which are dull and monotone. Sometimes voice over actors are aided in their distinctive voice by a well-liked regional or national accent, but more often than not, the person would have an interesting voice if they had the same accent as the listener. When hiring a voice over actor for a local radio advert, it\’s unlikely that the script will be passed on to Al Pachino\’s agent, but you will however get someone who has likely completed several projects before and is a competent actor or actress.

Actors who specialize in voice overs tend to work a circuit with other voice over actors, doing a large number of projects between them, this has led to people having very recognizable voices without actually being a recognizable name. Some actors specialize in certain aspects of voice over work, but they all have one thing in common, they have all got an interesting voice which will draw in a person rather than turn them away. There are also other reasons for getting professionally done voice overs other than just the quality of the actors, the sound editing is also important. A professionally done recording will be of an infinitely higher quality than an amateur one. A lot of the equipment and sound editing software would be cost prohibitive for a small to medium size private enterprise, and the ability to use it well also takes many years of experience.

Some professional voice over talent services will also help with the writing of the scripts using input from the business, presenting the message the business is trying to get across in an interesting way. It\’s no good hiring professional voice talent with interesting voices and getting them to read a boring list of offers or services. It\’s equally important that an advertisement doesn\’t get too annoying with repetition so it actively turns-off customers.

Given all of these factors, I would urge anyone who is producing an advertisement, video game or anything which includes voice overs, to really think about getting some professional talent in to help with the recording. When something is homemade, despite the best of intentions and with a few exceptions, you can really tell the difference.
