A Tale [or Life] of Half Truths

Most of us have had the experience of being in possession of a tid bit of what I call a \”truth\” that we might have been hesitant or afraid to share because we knew it would not be well received. Perhaps we employed non-disclosure or remained silent about someone or something. At the time I seriously doubt many appreciated the fact that silence might be interpreted as consent.

How about instances in which we may have been unable to handle a truth confronting us? This could be a pint sized actuality, such as not wanting to notice that our car was in need of repair/s because we didn\’t want to pay for them, or a jumbo sized actuality, such as not fully accepting that a cherished relationship was shifting or perhaps ending.

Sometimes we can be in a \”weather permitting\’ mode. This is somewhere between uninterested in knowing and afraid of knowing. The reality is that the truth is usually evident, and we can see it if we choose, but we each have our own elaborate ways of hiding the truth from ourselves, no matter how apparent it is.

Slowly breathe in, then out, and take a private minute to reflect on your ability or inability to communicate or perceive \”what is\”. Notice how frequently you voice minutia that is safe or politically correct and don\’t relate particulars that are factual for you but are not necessarily as Machiavellian. Don\’t do anything about any of it; just notice how frequently or infrequently this occurs.

Many of us get ourselves in dilemmas because we are not willing to impart or glimpse at an actuality. We\’d rather not hurt somebody\’s feelings, or feel the initial discomfort of being in touch with what\’s really going on around us. Perhaps we\’d rather not do or say anything of what we know to be true because it\’s not as comfortable or familiar. For the most part, we avoid the truth because it scares us, makes us angry, or makes us feel like we don\’t know what to do.

It is vital to have consistency/ integrity between what we relate we\’re going to do and what we actually do. When this is lacking there will be a build up to a \’situation\’ where assumptions will be made and misunderstanding will occur. PS: by the way we need to realize this also involves things we tell ourselves!

A can of worms will be inevitably introduced if/when one deems it necessary to turn on alternate personas for different situations. And, this approach to doing things can be exhausting, and confusing!

Energy delegated to fortifying complicated and often completely useless entanglements of lies and pretences can be channeled into something we really desire to do. So in the long run, being honest with oneself and others, actual simplifies and enhances ones life considerably!

A wonderful upside to ones transformation is that relationships which amplify our authenticity will present themselves if they are fostered and nurtured by being honest with our self, and others.

Life continually assists us to grow and learn, experience and explore, discover and discern what\’s perfect for us at any particular moment- and what is not. Happy Trails!
