Camping Etiquette

The word ‘Holiday’ is synonymous with luxury, ease and utter peace but there is a wild, unadulterated and inhibition free side too; what are we referring too? The camping holiday of course! Ok, so perhaps the British weather doesn’t always make for the best camping experience; visions of Glastonbury fan’s drowning in mud come to mind however don’t go pushing it to one side just yet. Camping is a fantastic opportunity to embrace nature and all its offerings, to get down and dirty with the wild and appreciate the beauty of nature in its entirety.

Whether it is an opportunity to be alone, with a partner, friends or family; camping is a unique and memorable experience that can help you unwind and experience an adventure like no other…not to mention the great life skills you can gain that a sun soaked villa probably wouldn’t allow! So pack up your nice and cosy tents, your North Face clothing, which should be great on the purse strings if you stumble on the north face sale! Get your hiking gear together, your mountain sleeping bags, that portable gas stove and anything else that will aid and abet your exciting adventure and get ready for some fun.

Mental preparation and the physical goods are great tools for the perfect camping trip but before you completely let loose and go wild; beware that there are quite a few etiquette rules that you will need to abide by…you won’t be the only one camping after-all.

Here are our top etiquette tips to help you ensure that however wild and at nature you feel; you ensure you and others around you camp in peace!

– Don’t be too noisy- Now it is easy to get excited around the campfire, maybe even have a drink or two with friends and sing some songs or be adventurous and even play a game but be mindful of the noise you make. Keeping your noise levels to a minimum is a must on a campsite so be sure to respect your fellow campers and make your holiday present for all.

– Don’t stir up a stench!- Camping is all about getting back to basics and making the most of the great outdoors so try and keep your air fresheners, pot noodles and quick and instant curry’s at home…no one want’s to have to put up with such smells when camping.

– Dim the lights- Naturally it can be daunting to know that you do not have a constant flow of lighting but try to keep the lamps and torches facing downwards and even off at night time as the lighting will no doubt disturb other sleeping campers.

– Watch the fire- It can be tempting, particularly in the oh so typical British Summer, to want to leave the fire going for a little extra warmth but not only is that an annoyance to those around you but an immense danger that could pose threats to the whole camp ground. We suggest you invest in some good quality camping clothing, with our particular favourite being the north face women’s Nuptse vest that will keep you warm without a hazard.

Don’t be afraid to embrace nature and have a real adventure with a good old fashioned holiday…but don’t get too carried away!
