How to Avoid Making Mistakes in Marketing Emails

Email marketing is an excellent way of making money from the Internet. The industry average for the worth of a list is a dollar a month per subscriber, which means it could potentially be worth a lot of money to you. If you have a good relationship with your list then this figure can be even higher!

However, many people make mistakes in the email marketing; mistakes which cost them money at the end of the day. If you can avoid these mistakes then you can improve your relationship with your list and you can increase the amount of money you make from them.

Firstly, many people use deceptive headlines in an attempt to trick people in to opening the email. Whilst you may think this is a good idea because it gets the email open, in most cases it is not because it damages your relationship with your list. It hits the trust factor because effectively you\’ve lied to them. One of the most common deceptive headlines, mostly used by spammers, is the \”Paypal Money Received\” or similar headline. It\’s bound to improve your unsubscribe rate!

Secondly, always check your grammar and spelling because this can really alienate people from your list. The thinking is that if your spelling and grammar is bad then whatever you are promoting is also going to of a similar poor quality.

It\’s an association you want to avoid because it will damage your sales and it will impact the relationship you have with your list. If the language you are writing with isn\’t your native language then just get a native language speaker to check your email for you. If you don\’t know one, hire one, it won\’t cost a lot of money and it can make a big difference in the amount of sales you make.

Another very common mistake people make is they don\’t take the time to build a relationship with their list. They send sales email after sales email which ends up just alienating their list. Nobody enjoys being sold to and if you are continuously emailing your list with offer after offer and no real value added content then you will find your open rate and conversion rates will be lower than they could be.

On top of building a relationship with your list, are you actually spending time reviewing the products that you are selling to them or are you selling anything and everything?

Selling poor quality products is one of the biggest mistakes any email marketer can make. If you are promoting any and every product you come across then you will find that your emails don\’t get opened, get consigned to the spam folder or get unsubscribed from. Unfortunately, few marketers check the products that they promote, and promoting a low quality product damages your reputation with your list which impacts your ability to earn from them.

These are some of the more common mistakes people make when email marketing. If you can avoid them then you\’ll find you earn more money from your list.
