Exotic Shorthair Kittens – a Lovely Pet For All

Among the many different varieties of pets that you can have in your home, one of the most desirable can be exotic shorthair kittens. This type of cat is a derivative of the Persian feline lineage. When you look for kittens that are of this type, it’s best to know what you’re getting into and what to expect from your new companion. Always make sure to investigate several different pieces of information so that you’re well informed as to what to expect when bringing home a new friend for you or your family.

First and foremost, let’s take a look at the way they are characterized, in terms of their basic look and feel. They have a broad skull, fully jaw and cheeks with a strong pronounced chin, small ears that are rounded at the tip, and large eyes. They will often times have a short, thick neck size and a small to medium body frame. They’ll have short hair but a little longer than most other exotics.

The temperament of these kittens is quite favorable and docile overall. They can be a little lively when young but they are overall friendly to other animals. They are not loners, so make sure that you don’t leave them alone often. They are excellent lap cats and love to be with their owners and familiar sounds and smells. They are great for the indoors as they enjoy the calm and stillness of apartments and homes. They do have a sense of agility and are known to capture mice, if they know they are present. However, they often times remain calm and affectionate, which is a major contributing factor in their popularity. Unlike others, exotic shorthair kittens are easy to groom and well-mannered overall. They usually take care of their own fur without any assistance, and will not need to be continually groomed or managed like other exotic felines. They tend to reach maturity after a couple of years and while they look externally like Persians, they are very much their own breed.

Before you purchase any pet, make sure that you’re aware of any health issues that you might have with them. In the case of this breed, they have kidney issues that can develop, but with regular veterinary check ups, a good diet, and plenty of love and care this breed is a wonderful pet to have in the home.

When you are looking for cats, make sure that you consider spaying and neutering as that helps with a variety of body functions. Furthermore, it’s best to let them get a familiar with their new surroundings. They may not want to come out of hiding for a while as they will be new to a place, but once they feel that they are safe and sound in your home, they will be loveable and even playful. Give them time, and don’t push them, especially if there are other pets in the home. If introducing a new cat amongst other cats, separate the new cat for a time, and let the older cats get the scent and accustomed to them in time, do not rush it.
