Houston Top 5 Entertainment Spots Not For Talking

One thing I have found through all of my visits to the many Houston nightlife parties over time is that many of the nightlife spots are not really great places to go and talk to people. It\’s funny how you always read about how different places are great for you to go out and mingle and meet new people. The problem is many of them are designed so that there is no way for you to actually talk to a person. There are plenty of great entertainment spots where talking is not really possible.

The way most dance clubs are nowadays makes it almost impossible for you to talk to someone. The music can be so loud that all you can see is the other person moving their lips. You have no real way of knowing if they are actually saying anything, talking in gibberish or cursing you out. It can be pretty frustrating.

The same can be said of a lot of the sports bars around town. They have so many televisions going at the same time with a variety of different games on them that you are not sure what is coming from where. You might think you are having a conversation with someone but it is really just the color commentator from the football game on the big screen who is talking.

What I find more frustrating is the places that say they want you to come and meet people, but then they frown on you doing any kind of talking and they want you to be quiet. This seems to be true of many of the more cultured events like art and museum shows. They advertise and want you to show up, but then you just have to sit and watch the whole time without talking to anyone? No thanks.

Even restaurants seem to have gotten so loud that you can\’t really do any talking at all. Unless you go to a very fancy place and are prepared to drop a lot of money, most of the places play music almost as loudly as a lot of the clubs. I would like to be able to speak to the person I am having dinner with, thank you very much.

Many people suggest taking a date to the movies as a place to go, but I think it\’s a terrible idea. This is certainly the one place that you shouldn\’t be talking at all (although so many do nowadays; they think they are at home watching a DVD). How can you get to know a person when your first date is at a movie and you can\’t talk at all?

I have kind of resigned myself to the idea that all of the Houston nightlife parties are loud and that\’s just the way it is going to be. If I want to have a conversation with anyone there, I ask them for their cell phone number. I can then sit and text them questions and answers so it at least feels like we are talking.
