7 Tips to Making Your Spray Tan Last Longer

It is nice to have that glow even without the summer season so if you have a spray tan on, it would be nice if it could last long. Typically a spray tan last around 4-10 days depending on how you prepare your skin and how you maintain it afterwards. If you want to keep your golden hue for much longer, here are seven tips that can prove to be helpful.

Exfoliate

Do you know that even the most expensive self-tanners out there can give you splotchy results particularly on trouble areas if you don’t exfoliate?

Lightly exfoliating your skin before getting a tan will help remove superficial dead skin cells which create an even base to spray on the tan. Particularly work on dry patches like the knees, ankles and elbows. Removing the dead superficial layers will also allow the tan to last hold on longer to the skin. It is also advisable to exfoliate on the third day after your spray tan and every few days so that the color remains even all over your body. Don’t be afraid that it might remove your tan completely. What this does is to only subdue the harsh color blending the tan well.

Moisturize

It is important that you start moisturizing your entire body days before getting a tanning session. This will make the skin more hydrated allowing the spray tan solution to stick well over it. To make your tan last longer, make sure to moisturize in the morning, after taking a shower, and at night. The hydration created by a moisturizer can extend the life f your tan, especially those that contain glycerine and low dose DHA.

Don’t get your new tan wet

You should keep your tan from any contact with water at least 6-8 hours after application. In fact, making sure to maintain this overnight is best so that the tan can properly stick on the skin. You should also avoid sweating it out doing exercise for the first 24 hours. Your first shower should not be more than a rinse. It would also be good if you keep your showers to only once a day. Also keep swimming to a minimum because extended hours in the water can make your tan fade quickly.

Prolong the color with spray tan enhancers

You can keep your spray tan longer by using products that will not only preserve its color but also enhances it. These products will contain DHA which is the main ingredient that provides the color in spray tans. Aside from maintaining your tan, this can also even out any blotchy areas of the skin. Another way to touch up any lightened areas is to use tinted moisturizers.

Use proper skin contact

By this it means that instead of rubbing the skin dry, pat it instead. It is also advisable to avoid using harsh loofahs while bathing. Also make sure that exfoliation should be done only lightly and also remember to keep shaving to a minimum.

Protect before getting wet

Before you take a shower put on a body oil first to create a barrier over your skin and tan making it last longer.

Allow it to dry well

If you opt to apply your fake tan yourself, you can make it stick on better by drying it thoroughly using a hair dryer.
