How Much Are You Worth?

Often in English speaking countries when we are talking about business people or politicians, the question “What is his net worth” seems to be vital. If the man has significant success, then we can learn from him or trust him to take care of our interests.

Of course the value that we are talking about in magazines like Forbes’s is calculated in dollars includes his/her assets (market value) minus his/her debts.

One of the richest men in the United States, Warren Buffet, had a net worth of 39 billion dollars after the “subprime” crisis of 2008. Before the crisis, his assets were worth 64 billion dollars.

Can we say that his experience and financial acumen plunged by 40% because of a crisis situation?

What is our true value?

Of course not, but our way of calculating someone’s value may have to be reviewed. The chemists used to say that a human being was worth about 8 dollars and 38 cents, in terms of water, minerals and so on. With that way of calculating, we really are not worth much!

In our case, here are some other questions we can ask ourselves:

What is the value of our experience?

What is the value of every precious hour of the time that we have left to live?

What is the value of our capacity to learn?

What is the value of our perseverance?

What is the real question?

The real question is to know how to monetize all of this value that is already in us. Internet allows you to multiply your time and make money with your experience, over and beyond the strategies learned at school.

With Internet, we can monetize quickly the many years lost in the schooling and the working world. But after having been beat down financially so many years, do we feel worthy of a lifestyle where we have enough money to accomplish every project dear to our heart, plus enough time to enjoy it?

We said that we needed to rethink our way of putting a value on a man’s (or woman’s) life.

So I’ll tell you a story of how the point of view of someone else on your life, may reveal to you that you are worth much more than you think.

The question we all need to answer.

A prince came by a small hamlet where he heard a man crying out asking to receive a pittance.

“Why are you begging, my friend”?

“I’m just a poor farm worker, Your Highness. I have neither house nor land. And for the moment there is no work to be had in the fields”.

“You are certainly richer than you look. I’m sure you are hiding it”!

“Oh no, Your Highness, I am an honest man”!

“All right then, I will give you 2000 pieces of silver if you let me cut off your right arm. It is better to lose an arm and be rich, isn’t it”?

“Oh no, Your Highness! Riches won’t last long, and many will come to my table to eat a free lunch. And without my right arm, I will no longer be able to work”.

“Well, what about your right leg; I’ll give you 1000 pieces of silver and you allow me to cut off your leg”.

“Please Your Highness; I no longer will be able to walk without help”.

“Then what if I cut off your two ears and I’ll give you 500 pieces of silver for the pair”.

“Have pity on me My Lord. The children will be terrified by the sight”!

“Well your thumb must be worth at least 200 pieces of silver, what do you think”? “Certainly, my Lord, but how will I be able to hold my walking stick”?

The Prince said to him, “You see my friend; just your leg; your arm, your ears and your thumb already are worth more than 3000 pieces of silver”.

“You are already immensely rich”!

“But so you have the time to realize it, here is what I’m willing to invest in your life”.

The Prince threw something that the beggar caught skillfully. When he opened his hand he found a ring finely decorated with precious stones.

It was the seal of the Princely authority that opened all the doors in the Kingdom. “Make good use of it, my Prince”!

That is my story. Make good use of it! Just remember that you are worth much more than you think. And there are Internet gurus (princes) who will give you the keys of the kingdom. Just pay attention and catch the opportunities they throw at you!
