Best Grand Canyon Sightseeing Flight Tours for the Halloween Holiday

The Halloween holiday weekend is this month and it\’s the perfect time of the year to take a Grand Canyon helicopter or airplane sightseeing tour from Las Vegas, NV, or Tusayan, AZ (a/k/a the South Rim).

Helicopters

Flights will be departing on a regular schedule. From Las Vegas, trips leave from The Strip, Henderson or Boulder City. From South Rim, take-offs are from Grand Canyon National Park Airport.

Las Vegas trips go over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and more en route to the Canyon. If you are taking an air-only ride, you\’ll turn back for town. Landing trip go to the top or bottom of the gorge.

My favorite landing tour is the one that heads to the base for a Champagne picnic. It can be upgraded to be done at sunset or to include a Colorado River boat ride and a pass to the incomparable Grand Canyon Skywalk.

Skywalk

The Skywalk, which is also knows as the Glass Bridge, is a multi-million dollar structure that lets guests walk some 70 feet over the edge until they are standing about 4,000 feet over the bottom. From that point, the views are spectacular.

South Rim helicopters are not allowed to fly below the rim and land. Thus there are two primary air tours from which to choose and they are the 30-minute and 50-minute flight. Personally, I prefer the longer tour because it lets you see up to 75 percent of the National Park.

There are two versions of all helicopter tours. They are basic and deluxe. I prefer the deluxe because it uses the superior EcoStar 130 helicopter. The EcoStar is awesome because it\’s 25 percent larger than a regular chopper, boats as 180-degree windshield and is outfitted with stadium-style seats.

Deluxe is Better

If you are taking a Vegas heli ride, most definitely go deluxe. First, you\’ll get picked up and dropped off in a black-stretch limo. Moreover, you\’ll take off from the Strip, which means you\’ll get an extended tour over the Vegas skyline on the return.

Vegas airplane tours do pretty much the same thing that helicopter tours do except at a higher altitude and with more people (airplanes hold 19 people while helis hold 6 people). The other thing is that airplane tours are cheaper and there\’s usually more availability.

Airplanes can also be upgraded to include side trips that include helicopter rides to the bottom of the Canyon (Vegas only), Skywalk tickets and much more. My favorite is the one that includes a heli to the base, a boat ride on the Colorado and a pass to the Glass Bridge.

There\’s only one South Rim airplane tour and it\’s awesome. It follows the same flight path as the 50-minute helicopter and covers South Rim, North Rim and East Rims before landing at the airport. Please note that this plane ride is super popular and sells out fast.

Conclusion

I hope this article helped you get a head start on planning your Halloween holiday weekend Grand Canyon sightseeing flight tour. Folks, this is a busy time of the year at the National Park, so try hard to book your tour in advance and online. Do that and you\’ll get an excellent air tour at a terrific price.
