Las Vegas New Years Helicopter Rides to Grand Canyon

Planning to be in Las Vegas over the New Year\’s holiday? Then really celebrate by taking a spectacular helicopter ride to the top or the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

Vegas!

Las Vegas is just 120 miles from the National Park, which is a quick 45-minute helicopter ride. En route, you\’ll fly over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and a lot more.

You can fly over the Canyon or you can land at the base or the top. I prefer the bottom landing tours. One I like in particular goes to the bottom for a picnic with Champagne. Others like to add a Colorado River boat ride and Skywalk tickets.

By the way, the Skywalk is the famous all-glass platform bridge that lets you walk some 70 feet over the edge until you are standing 4K feet over the bottom. The views, too, are simply spectacular.

Types of Tours

There are two kinds of Vegas NYE helicopter tours available. They are referred to as basic and deluxe. The basic tours include free hotel pick up and drop off by mini van. By contrast, deluxe tours use a limo.

Basic tours primarily leave from nearby Boulder City and require a 35-minute shuttle ride. Deluxe tours leave from the helipad right on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Travel time by limo from your hotel is usually about 10 to 15 minutes.

The biggest differentiator between basic and deluxe tours is the chopper. Basic tours use more standard aircraft while deluxe tours use the elite EcoStar 130, which features a massive 180-degree windshield.

Best Heli

The EcoStar 130 also boasts stadium-style seats that are bigger, more comfortable and have more personal space. These helis are better in terms of their aerodynamic design, which results in a quieter, faster and smoother ride.

New Year\’s Eve is a huge event in Las Vegas. As such, it\’s strongly recommended that you book your tour as soon as you can. The best-case scenario is to book at least a week in advance. Further, always book your tour online – not at the destination because you will pay more (a lot more!).

I also suggest only sticking with morning and early afternoon tours because Las Vegas Boulevard, the main street in town, begins to close to vehicular traffic in advance of the celebration. Road closures make getting back to your Strip hotel a bit challenging.

Interestingly, the first day of the New Year is a great day to take a flight. The City is relatively quiet and getting to and from the helipad is quick, especially morning flights. Personally, I really like this option and can\’t think of a better way to start the year fresh.

Conclusion

I hope this article about Las Vegas New Year\’s holiday helicopter tours to the Grand Canyon helped you plan your adventure. As noted, I recommend any of the landing tours, but especially the one that goes to the bottom for a Champagne toast! And try to do a deluxe tour. The helicopter is better, the views are outstanding and the overall experience will leave you breathless.
