Las Vegas Grand Canyon Airplane Tours During Labor Day Vacation

Going to Las Vegas for the Labor Day holiday? Then you\’ve got to try a Grand Canyon airplane tour. Flights leave daily and go to the West Rim and the South Rim. But act now as these tours tend to sell out during this final holiday of the summer.

Fast Flights

Unlike the South Rim, Las Vegas travelers can fly to the West and the South and because of that I urge you to give these flights serious consideration. In fact, from Vegas, it\’s just a 30-minute flight to the West Rim and a 60-minute flight to the South.

The West Rim gets the lion\’s share of Vegas plane tours. Part of that is convenience. But what really grabs people are the activities, which include taking a helicopter to bottom and a boat ride on the Colorado Rive. You can even add VIP Skywalk tickets to the package.

For those unfamiliar with the Skywalk, it\’s the all-glass bridge that lets you walk some 70 feet over the edge until you are standing some 4K feet over the bottom. The views are spectacular, too, especially the ones of Guano Point and Eagle Point. No personal electronics are allowed, but there are professional photographers there to take your pic.

Hoover Dam

The flight path for all planes departing Vegas for the Canyon goes over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and more. If you are going to the West Rim, you\’ll land on top near the Skywalk complex. If you are going to the South Rim, you\’ll continue onward and fly over northern Arizona until you land at Grand Canyon National Park Airport in Tusayan, AZ.

The South Rim flight comes in standard and deluxe packages. The standard includes shuttle bus service inside the National Park and 2.5 hours to enjoy the Canyon. The deluxe does the same except it comes with a 30-minute helicopter ride that goes from South Rim to North Rim and back via the Dragoon Corridor, the widest and deepest section of the Canyon.

Airplane tours are very popular. That\’s why I recommend travelers book them at least a week or two in advance. Book within 72 hours or same-day and you can expect the price to go up significantly. Don\’t be surprised if the tour is sold out, either. And book it online. Not only is it easy but it\’s also where the best deals are posted. I personally have been on the receiving end of specials that got me up to 35% off!

It\’s still hot at the Canyon as we transition from summer to fall and that means you still need to prepare for heat. I recommend you wear a brimmed hat, a lightweight long-sleeved shirt and sunglasses. Also pack extra water and a salty snack like trail mix. Sun block is also advised.

Conclusion

I hope this article about Grand Canyon airplane tours from Las Vegas proved helpful as you plan your Labor Day vacation. Personally, I like the West Rim air tour that includes tickets to the Skywalk and a heli ride to the bottom. My other favorite is the direct flight to the South Rim. Think about it: It takes a bus or a car 5.5 hours to reach this rim. By plane and you\’re there in 60 minutes!
