Many people when designing a shabby chic home seem to find trouble when it comes time to decorate the kitchen. Kitchens are one of those spaces that are hard to decorate without redoing the cabinetry and counter tops. Second, little decorations and knick knacks are easy quick fixes especially for countertops and windowsills. Little knick knacks are a great way to bring in little bits of yourself to the space, using pictures, or towels that sport favorite flowers or quotes. Towels are also a fantastic way to add those little shabby chic touches to a space.

Third, rugs are a large part of what can make or break a space. Many rugs are now available which offer a crotched border or other unique stitching that brings in a fun feel to the space. These little pieces are enough to brighten up any space and tie it all in together.

Fourth, some of the simplest things you can do to a space just to bring in that feel of shabby chic is just adding some curtains. Floral curtains, light colors, or elegant curtains are an easy way to splash in the shabby chic. Curtains can be a large part of a space, and can easily become a focal point. Curtains can also be paired up with the other little bits and pieces in the space bringing it all together.

Fifth, furniture is a great way to add those little touches for your kitchen. If you happen to have a bar area large enough for barstools, you can easily doll up your barstools to match your kitchen space. Comfortable chair cushions are a less pricey way to dress up barstools that you may currently own, rather than purchasing new ones. If you do not happen to have a bar counter top, then dress up your kitchen table. Tablecloths and chair pads are easy pieces that you can coordinate with your new curtains, rugs, and towels. Set up your table with your new dinnerware and your “new” table is ready to go and impress guests.

Last, but not least, for those that are able to afford to splurge a little can simply paint your cabinets (but may not be able to afford splurging on a whole brand new set of cabinets). Many hardware stores feature paint specifically for kitchens. Additionally, these stores can also help you when choosing colors and textures. A change as simple as painting cabinets white, and giving a splash of blue inserts can entirely change the space.
