GMC’s 2010 Terrain is an Affordable Compact SUV

Due to its excellent fuel economy and comfortable amenities, GMC’s 2010 Terrain is perfectly suited to families or anyone who is looking for an affordable compact SUV with lots of big features. The Terrain competes in the affordable compact SUV niche with cars such as the Chevy Equinox and Toyota RAV4. On the exterior the Terrain sort of looks like a truck due to its square and aggressive frame. Due to its unique shape this vehicle definitely commands attention on the road. The wheels are big and prominent while the grille is aggressive resulting in a bold and daring appearance. There are four trims available for the Terrain; the base model SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1 and upper trim SLT2.

The engine that powers the Terrain is a capable 2.4 Liter four cylinder engine which outputs 182 horsepower. There is also the option of selecting from a six cylinder engine instead that puts out 264 horsepower. In terms of gas mileage, the four cylinder gets 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the freeway. Acceleration is slightly better with the V6 engine but fuel economy isn’t as good as the V4. It’s recommended to keep the standard wheels as the drive with the optional bigger one isn’t as smooth and comfortable.

The cabin is well built and roomy enough to seat five adult persons. Soft red interior lighting is in place which really stands out during night time. You have the option of leather appointed seats at an additional cost. One special feature that the Terrain offers as a standard feature is a rearview camera, a feature that is usually only found on luxury vehicles. One aspect that stands out about the Terrain is how well insulated it is from exterior wind and noise ensuring that your drive is always enjoyable.

The base model sports luxurious amenities usually not found in cars in its price range such as keyless entry, USB compatibility, a telescoping steering wheel and XM satellite radio. Cargo space is at 31.6 cubic ft which can be expanded to 63.9 cubic ft with the seats folded down. The SLE-2 trim adds in temperature controlled seats, a system to help you navigate traffic, sunroof and a DVD system in the back. The highest level trim model, the SLT-2 adds in driver’s side memory seats, a sunroof, a liftgate and a Chrome Exterior package.

A large number of safety systems are in place in order to maximize passenger safety. This includes a ABS brake system, and traction control. The IIHS awarded the Terrain good scores for side, front and rear impact tests plus named it a top pick in regards to safety. Pretensioners for the seat belts are in place which automatically tighten up if there is an accident. A security system is in place which shuts down the engine if a key other than the original is used.

Even though the 2010 Terrain is competitively priced, it still offers a lot of value such as the rear camera, a USB interface and soothing ambient lighting. This vehicle would be perfectly suited for families or anyone who is in need of a compact SUV that’s excellent on gas and offers a lot of deluxe amenities at an affordable price. This vehicle is within reach for most consumers and affordably priced in the $24k range.
