Fun Stencil Name Border For Your Bedroom Wall

You can add a unique and beautiful look to your bedroom wall with a fun stencil name border. If you cannot find your particular name in stencil form because it is spelled unusually or the availability is limited, you can make your own with ease using basic materials. The steps below will help you get this custom look for your bedroom.

Stencil

The market is ripe with name stencils, but if you cannot locate a stencil with your name, you can make your own with little effort. To begin, you’ll need a poster board, box cutter, and a pencil. First, draw your name onto the poster in whatever style you prefer. Create a romantic, feminine feel with flowing letters or a modern, masculine look with bold, chunky letters. Be certain that you draw your name in a large enough size to make an appropriate stencil.

After you have designed the stencil, use the box cutter to cut it out of the poster board. The cut out spaces will be where the paint will be applied. Keep that in mind when drawing the name and cutting it out. For stenciling on walls that are textured or curved, consider creating your stencil on heavy paper, like the brown paper grocery bag, as it is a bit more flexible than poster board and will thus be more conforming to surfaces that are uneven. And as another option, you might also consider purchasing individual stencils for each letter in your name, taping each letter together in order to spell out the name.

Preparing the Wall

It is important that you properly prepare the walls where you plan to use the stencils. Wipe down your walls using a wet cloth to remove dust and dirt. Allow the walls to dry. Measure the room to determine the proper positioning for the stencils. If you are placing the stencil at chair rail height, measure up from the base board in the room. Mark a line around the room for the stencil, using a pencil. A dress maker’s pencil is a great choice for this line because you can just rub it away later after your stencil name has dried. Aim for a straight line that is positioned the same distance from your ceiling and that extends around the room.

Application

Tape your stencil onto the wall with blue painting tape. Be certain that the letters’ bottoms sit on the line that you drew earlier. Use a stencil brush to paint the inside area of the stencil in quick dabs using even pressure. Allow enough time for the paint to completely dry before moving the stencil to the next area. Avoid putting too much paint on the brush to keep it from dripping.

This fun project is a great way to customize your bedroom and to create a room that is totally unique. Think about using stencils to make other names, like the family’s surname, or favorite sayings and phrases, or words that have a special meaning for other family members. With well-placed stencils, the possibilities are truly without limit.
