Get Back to Basics. A Simpler Resume

As you may have read in numerous ‘how-to’ essays that resume writing is a tricky business and the messier a resume is the lesser the probability it is that the individual would get called in for an interview. As you may have heard this before that an individual only has maximum 30 seconds to impress his reader and if the resume does no contain anything interesting there is hardly any chance that your recruiter may stick around till the end.

The most important and essential step in making a resume that does not only do justice to the skills possessed by you and is also easy on the eyes of the reader. All resume should have ample amount of clarity in them and a resume should have an objective so that u can clearly tell your recruiter as to what you’re expecting from the job and what kind of post you want in the organization. Most people begin their resume with their qualification and that is exactly where they make the biggest mistake.

If you say that you have a degree in Computer studies or mass communication the recruiter may be left wondering as to what kind of job the individual want. Secondly, since professionals do not really have much time to read the story of your life they want to speed read and during their speed reading if they do not find anything interesting, that is one bad news for you in a time of recession where employment is so hard to find. Therefore, try not jumble all tings together in your resume divide them into groups and use bullet points so that the individual can sift through it easily.

The third point is to focus on results and all your capabilities and make sure that your resume is not longer than two pages, leave some pleasant surprises for your interview and a simple resume can help do that for you, if you meticulously focus on all the aforementioned points and do not forget to get it read by your family and friend so that they’ll give you an honest opinion concerning the quality of your resume.

Lastly, you should make sure that you focus on your achievements rather than on your responsibilities. For the reason that anybody can be assigned to complete certain tasks, there is nothing special about you that your recruiter will see in the resume if you don’t show him how you have tackled different situations using your skills and talent. You may do so by adding bullets under each of your job experience and by clearly mentioning exactly what you achieved while you were a part of those jobs.

It’s really important that you show all of your skills that you utilized in each of your past jobs to come up with the desired results. This way you would be able to provide what a recruiter really wants to see in a resume. If you mention all the necessary information in the resume your interview will become easy as there would be fewer things for the recruiter to ask.

These things can seriously help further improve your resume and literally ‘WOW’ your recruiter.
