Easy Advice to Avoid the Dentist

The simple fact is that most people do not like to go to the dentist. Some folks are terrified just by the sound of the dental drill. For that reason, the majority of people will visit their dentist only after they feel a tooth pain. And that may be too late. Here is some advice on how to prevent dental problems:

Brush Teeth after Every Meal – Dental hygiene is the most important when it comes to maintaining one\’s oral and dental health. Take care of teeth after every meal. Sometimes this is not possible, especially for people who spend a lot of time out of their homes. If that is the case, brush the teeth at least two times a day: in the morning and prior to sleep. In order to properly brush the teeth and oral cavity properly, brushing should last for at least 3 minutes.

Use Fluoride Toothpaste – Fluoride re-mineralizes enamel which protects the teeth. Teeth are covered with plaque – a thin layer of bacteria which produces acids. These acids can damage the enamel. If not treated properly, this can lead to cavities. Using fluoride toothpaste will make the enamel more resistant to bacteria.

Change the Toothbrush Every Three Months – Get a new toothbrush every three months. This should be done even more often, if the synthetic fibers are damaged. A toothbrush with damaged fibers will not remove the plaque properly, leaving the teeth vulnerable to bacteria.

Dental Floss – Toothbrush is the basic and most important dental hygiene tool, but it is not 100% efficient. Dental floss is used to remove remaining food which is stuck between the teeth. It is very thin and usually made of plastic or nylon. Floss should be used after every meal, or at least once a day, before going to bed. It is very efficient for preventing gum disease. Most people notice bleeding when they first start flossing. This is because the gums are tender. Continue with flossing and bleeding should stop once the gums become healthier.

Mouthwash – Mouthwash is just an addition to brushing and flossing. Mouth should be rinsed two times a day, after brushing. It is available in numerous flavors and apart from killing bacteria; it also gives a fresh breath.

Don\’t Forget the Tongue – Teeth are not the only thing in the mouth which requires cleaning. A tongue is covered with numerous bacteria which multiply fast on its surface. In most cases, these bacteria are responsible for bad breath. During each brushing, the tongue needs to be scrubbed as well. There are many toothbrushes with integrated cheek and tongue cleaners available on the market today.

Regular Checkups – It is recommended to visit a specialist at least once every six months. Serious problems can be detected long before the pain is actually there. Seeing a specialist on the regular basis can prevent severe problems such as dental caries from happening.

Not only that seeing a dentist is often unpleasant, it is expensive as well. Basic dental work can cost a fortune. Many companies are excluding dental insurance from their lists of benefits. By following these simple tips, one can save a lot of money in the long run.
