Pieces of Figurative Sculpture Can Be Found Everywhere

Pieces of figurative sculpture are all around. Many are displayed in office buildings, city parks, monuments, memorials, amusement parks, museums and art galleries.

Quite a few of them are known throughout the world. Some people have them in their own homes.

The thing about a figurative sculpture is that it catches everyone\’s attention. One cannot simply walk by, they must stop, look, and ponder.

If someone was looking up the definition of a figurative sculpture, they would find it being defined as a painting or sculpture that evolves from real objects. They may be animals or humans, but they are very much like a representation of the object as viewed by the artist. Some of the common elements that are in a figurative sculpture and help define it as such are the shape, color, lines, volume, mass, and perspective.

Figurative sculpture is most likely some of the most emotional pieces of art. They have the ability to evoke so many different emotions that, many times, are hard to put in to words.

They can be very complex, but even the most layman of artist or art lover would be able to gain some perspective on any one particular piece. That is also the beauty of them.

Many artists find it therapeutic to involve themselves in this type of art form. He or she may find themselves lost in their work emotionally.

Several of them have said that, while creating a piece however simple or complex, there comes a point in the creation that a feeling or emotion comes up. In turn, this is portrayed in one way or another in their piece.

Many sculptors use this as a way of expressing past hurts, pains, anguish, loss, or a way of healing from a traumatic event. Others use this type of art to tell a story, but in life form.

An example of that is an artist that created a piece that was a man evolving from a fetal position pose to a standing pose. His vision when creating the different pieces was to show a man gaining his strength and courage, from being cowardly to courageous. He stopped the explanation of the piece there because he wanted the viewer to have their own unadulterated view of the work as well.

That is the beauty of this style of art. Many pieces are life sized or close to life sized. They are also palpable.

They can be touched and felt by the hands that shape them and view them. This brings an additional element of feeling and emotion to every piece.

This is also the true intent of most sculptors. Each piece is made to grab the attention of the passerby\’s.

Few people can walk by one of these pieces and wonder what the creator must have been thinking, feeling, and what they wanted to convey to everybody else.

However, when they are creating these, they want the viewer to have their own perception of each piece. There is no right or wrong answer or emotion when viewing this style of art. “To each his own” is what many would say.
