Face Lift Procedures: Short Scar Vs. Traditional

Surgical face lifts have been one of the most popular cosmetic procedures requested by patients. And that is due to the fact that it does a significant improvement on the face for a much younger look. Since this method has been around for quite a while now, new techniques have been introduced to suit the preference and problem of the patient.

One such technique that has also received good reception from patients is the short scar face lifts. How does it differ from the traditional face lift? Let us dissect the two much further.

Traditional Face Lifts

The full face lift is a procedure that needs a long incision that would usually run along the sides of the face or below the jaw. It is also called a rhytidectomy.

It aims to remove those visible signs of aging such as, sagging on the middle portion of the face, jowl lines caused by loss of muscle tone, deep eyelid creases, marionette lines, loose skin and excess fat near the jawline and below chin.

A traditional face lift provides a more comprehensive approach. This means that the extent of invasiveness allows the surgeon to perform a better and wider lift at a larger scale on the face. It gives him more control to fashion the face in a way that it results to a rejuvenated and youthful appearance.

However, if you want to see this much change you have to know that you have to understand that it will be highly invasive. By that it also means that there will be larger scars, more time required for recovery and a bigger price tag.

Short Scar Face Lifts

This face lift technique was developed in Europe and was aimed at minimizing recovery time and scarring through the use of small incisions. Any scarring wouldn’t be as visible because it will be strategically positioned on the area near the hairline or behind your ears.

Through these smaller incisions the surgeons use placating sutures to give a lift to deep tissues. This also gives a lift to sagging skin. The good thing about this procedure is that it does not give that overly lifted look which you can often observe on most celebrities; and this is also a usual tendency among traditional face lifts. In this method it is highly likely to get a more natural result.

Because it is less invasive, and it does not require that much lifting or repositioning of both skin and internal structures, a short scar face lift is also much cheaper.

However you must understand that this is not advised for patients who have advanced skin aging. Younger patients who have developed initial signs of aging such as fine lines and superficial wrinkles are the ones who would benefit best from this procedure.

That is why you need to make sure that you discuss with your surgeon what method would suit you best. You might need a more invasive full face lift or just some light tweaking through a short scar face lift. But if you have issues with scarring, there is a list of non-surgical anti-aging options that also gives dramatic results.
