How Can We Follow Our Passion But Still Be Financially Stable?

A 35 year old American who used to join one of my workshops had a good job and stable income but she was suffering from pressure, overwork and she didn\’t enjoy her job.

She wanted to change careers but struggled to pursue her passion because of financial instability. Every day she struggled to go to the office and find a sense of joy in her life.

During the workshops she asked me, \’\’how do we pursue our passion and remain financially stable?\’\’

In a recent survey from the American Psychological Association they found that:

\”Many people are in jobs they don\’t like or aren\’t good at. The quick answer is to get a job they like or one that better matches their skills, abilities, and interest–easier said than done. Some clients have no idea what kind of job they would like or what kind of job would be better. Worse, they don\’t have a clue on how to go about finding out this information\”

It\’s very important to take time to evaluate your current situation and start preparing for a job which you love or second career while remaining financially stable.

Here Are Five Ways To A Successful Career Change

1. Most important is to identify, what is your passion? Think about work that would give you greatest satisfaction on a daily basis. What would you like to give to others and get paid for? Listen to your gut feeling and find the answer from within.

2. Your job can be 3 into 1, for example my public speaking coach is an artist who has developed a painting technique called painting without a brush. She is also a life coach and she helps people to become public speakers. Often people believe that you need to have 1 job but if you have various talents see how you can monetize all of them.

3. Make a plan and prepare and test and experiment. Finding a job you love takes time so you will need to test which one would fits you best. For example if you think about becoming a life coach, talk to life coaches, ask to be coached by them.

Start coaching skills training, while remaining your current job. It\’s very important you keep your current job and that while doing so you prepare to find your next career. Develop new skills in the area of your interest and offer to volunteer to get experience and exposure.

4. Once you have found your passion, prepare for a transition, meaning that you build a new career so it becomes a regular income stream. If you want to be a freelancer set-up a website, make name cards, prepare brochures all while keeping your current job so you don\’t experience financial instability, find your first customers to have a client base.

5. Build reserves so when you make the career change you have enough funds to support yourself for at least 6 months.

What is your gut telling you now? Take action now.
