“I Learned Everything I Need To Know About Dieting From My 4-Year-Old-Nephew!”

His name is Mikey, and he knows everything I need to know about dieting.

Yup, it’s true. O.K. You must be looking at me right now out of the corner of your eyes like I am a crazy person. “What the heck does she mean by that?” It’s pretty easy really.

Not complex at all.

Hey, if you’ve been around a 4-year-old-child more than once in your lifetime then you probably know that they have incredible “magic powers”.

You know the kind.

The kind where they toss on a cape and all of a sudden they become “Mr. Invincible”, and begin jumping off the highest place they can find (usually the couch or the dresser).

They may even take on the personality of “Dr. Death” when they decide it’s an absolutely fantastic idea to eat gobs and gobs of purple Play-Doh.

“Dr. Death” is right as I began watching in horror as my cute little Mikey runs around the room vomiting, crying, screaming, and then curling up into the inevitable fetal position.

Magical powers indeed.

No, Mikey didn’t like Purple Play-Doh. Purple Play-Doh did not taste good. “But what does all this have to do with MY dieting, or knowing the best tricks to dieting? That, my friend, is where the REAL magic happens.

You see, Mikey will most likely NOT be eating his beloved purple Play-Doh (or what he thought would be deliciousness beyond belief & grape flavored to boot).

No, Mikey would no longer be jumping off the couch or the dresser (since he broke both ankles, chipped a tooth and fractured his arm in the process that evening).

You see, Mikey learned something absolutely amazing that fateful day. He learned something that most adults should know, but many times don’t.

Mikey learned that when something fails, don’t bother doing it again.

“Did you hear that?” I will repeat it again so you get just how amazing it is. Mikey learned when something he did failed, to not waste your blood, sweat, vomit and tears trying to do the same thing over and over again.

You’ve probably even heard the famous saying “Crazy is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result”.

Not with Mikey, because Mikey now knows better.

Don’t jump up and down singing praises for Mikey just yet. No, Mikey did not have the purple Play-Doh ever again. Unfortunately, he did decide to try the red (strawberry flavored he thought no doubt?) Play-Doh instead.

After all, purple did not have quite the expected outcome as he hoped.

But red has never failed him as a color or as a friend. Red has always been there for him and held a place of fondness especially when he played with his fire truck or even when he drank his favorite cranberry juice cocktail.

Red was the color of deliciousness beyond delight…strawberry style! It MUST be yummy, even in Play-Doh. Sadly, Mikey was wrong again there too.

But another lesson learned.

“So how does this help YOU?” Well, next time you try a diet that doesn’t quite have the outcome you are looking for, try something ELSE. Don’t try the same thing over and over again, expecting a totally different outcome. That would be craziness in the style of Mikey.

Don’t give up, but try another way to get to your goal. If you want to lose 4 pounds by this weekend, you probably won’t be eating Play-Doh.

Take it from Mikey, it WON’T work and it just tastes disgusting too.

Maybe you should try the cherry (I mean pink colored) Play-Doh instead. You see, you already learned the purple and red did not have the desired outcome.

If you are still struggling to lose weight, maybe it’s time to try something new and different in your diet. Find something that actually WORKS for YOU!

When you do, keep doing THAT until you get to your goal of looking absolutely fantastic in your new pair of tight, white designer jeans.

Good for you! Keep it up. When it comes to dieting, keep trying all the “Play-Doh “colors and flavors out there until you get to the one that tastes (and works) like a DREAM!

Take it from Mikey, knowing what doesn’t work is JUST as important as knowing what does, even when it comes to dieting. If nothing else, it saves you time, money, blood and sweat by not trying that one again and again (and again) in the future.
