Beginner Golf Tips – Enjoy the Game

We are asked all of the time by those wanting to learn how to play golf…\”How do I get started and what clubs should I buy?\” Here we will discuss some beginner golf tips that will help you to get started playing this great game. Many people believe that the game is too expensive to play and is mostly played at a private club. Actually, 9 out of 10 rounds are played on a public golf course! Here is how you can get involved:

Beginner Golf Clubs – Many of those who are just thinking about taking up the game do not want to invest in something that they are not sure if they are even going to like to do. I get it as I have done the same thing. Many beginners think that you need to go out and buy an expensive set of clubs to start playing the game. This is simply not true! If you are on the fence about whether you would like to play or not, the first thing that I would do is contact the course that you want to go to and see if they have any demo clubs that you can try. Most clubs will allow you to take them to the range and practice. After going to the practice facility a few times, you will get a feel for whether you like it or not. This will probably only cost you the range balls that you hit! Not Expensive! In addition, the majority of the manufacturers sell clubs by the club these days. So when you are ready to purchase, you do not have to buy them all at once and your set can grow with your skill level.

Find a putter – Even though you are a beginner, you will be attracted to some putters over others. You will want to find one that you like to look at and the bottom sits flat on the ground. In addition, you will want it to be pointing where you are looking (meaning it does not feel like it points to the right or left).

Rules and the Regulations – Once you are ready to try to go to the golf course, you will need to learn some of the simple rules. DO NOT get bogged down in them. The Rules of Golf are very complicated. You will need to learn proper etiquette and a couple of the major rules. Your local PGA Professional should be happy to help you with any questions that you may have. If you really want to get into the rules, the USGA.org website has the rule book posted online as well as quizzes for you to test your knowledge. Keep in mind though, unless you are playing in a tournament, the rules are what you make them! Make it fun!
