Job Skills Recruiters Are Not Looking For in an Effective Resume

In a highly competitive job market like we have today, developing the essential skills to make your resume better than the others is important to achieve success. As you begin your preparations for creating your resume, you need to be up to date with the current trends because the skills that you think were in demand in the past may not necessarily be significant today. To produce an effective resume, it is vital that you know what employers are looking for and what they don’t need from a job candidate.

According to studies, certain skills have experienced a significant drop in value over the past years. These skills are also predicted to have little to no growth in significance over the next few years. So if some or all of these skills are what your old resume contained, it is time that you invest in acquiring new and more valuable skills.

Spanish

According to statistics, Spanish is next to English as the most commonly used language in the United States. In fact, there are more than 35 million residents in the US speaking this language. So how come this job skill is no longer significant? Well, the simplest reason here is that Spanish is not an important language in business. In terms of language skills, you can instead learn Chinese, Japanese or even Arabic as these will surely make your resume look better.

Software Upgrade or Installation

In the past, very few people had an expertise in dealing with computer software. But times have changed and most workers of today already have basic knowledge of software and other aspects of computers. You have to realize also that software upgrades and installations these days can be done automatically already.

Legal Research

Legal research was once a job skill that many employers used to be very impressed with. However, there are now so many unemployed and underemployed graduates of law school who can offer this skill in their workplace. Perhaps the only way that this skill could be of use to you is if you decide to head back to law school.

Dealing with Mortgage Loans

As you may be aware also, the housing industry has become so vulnerable over the years. As a result, a number of businesses related to the housing and real estate industry had to close down. Unless you are applying for a position related to real estate, you had better not include it in your resume. Remember that a good resume is one that includes specific skill sets relevant to the job and the company.

RECOMMENDATION

In order to come up with an effective resume, you should invest time to do some research and to keep yourself updated on the current trends in the field you are targeting. If you find out that you lack the necessary skills or experience that will make you qualified for the job you are applying to, then you should find ways to fill the gaps in your resume. Attend short courses if necessary and acquire only the skills relevant to the job you desire.
