Staying Healthy in Difficult Climates- 2 Points

If you live in a humid or very cold climate you probably know that outside exercise takes special precautions. Exercising in a climate controlled gym is easy, but do avoid strenuous exercise outside in either hot and humid weather or very cold temperatures. Different climates require different clothing, styles, and activity levels. If you love to exercise indoors then climate will have no affect on your exercise program; just keep going for at least 30 minutes a day to provide staying healthy regimens.

Hot and Humid

When you exercise outdoors instead of in a gym, be cautious in choosing your exercising activities. Swimming in a cool pool is perfect in hot and humid weather. You can also exercise or engage in running activities early in the morning or later in the evening. Adjust to the temperature before going with your full energy. Stay hydrated. You will need to keep a water bottle by your side at all times. Working in hot and humid weather can give your body the stamina it needs to work in stressful situations.

Staying healthy by keeping to your hot weather exercise program can be productive.

It is very important to wear sunscreen when working and exercising outside. Avoid drinks that contain caffeine since they increase fluid loss. Wear light and lose fitting clothing as you exercise and moisten your skin with cool sprays of water when needed. Don’t ignore your fitness regimen, but do be logical about what you are doing.

Sub-Freezing and Cold

Freezing cold weather does require preparation if you are a regular exerciser. Stay safe and have fun while exercising out in the cold. Running is perfect and it can take off the pounds and inches. Running in the cold is very invigorating and gives you a medium for staying healthy.

Layer and wear synthetic fabrics. Do keep most of your body covered and the fabric closest to your skin should be synthetic and sweat wicking. Wear a wind resistant and waterproof jacket. Wearing gloves and a ski hat is important.

Respect your limits and know the signs of hypothermia and frostbite. When your body temperature falls below 95 degrees you may become confused and shiver uncontrollably. Try and avoid chills at all costs if you are exercising outside in the cold. Cold temperatures also restrict blood flow and can cause muscles to contract and cramp. Don’t force the pace when you feel stiff. Just move in a steady manner.

Stay hydrated and whatever you do not forget to drink when you are exercising in cold weather. To stay healthy you need to keep drinking when you feel thirsty and do not drink more than 8 ounces every 20 minutes. Slow down a bit and enjoy the clear air.

After exercising in either hot or cold weather the most important item is to take care of you after exercising. If you are out in the cold get inside quickly and remove your wet clothes immediately.

After exercising outside in the heat it is wise to go into a cool room, sit for a minute, take deep breathes, and drink plenty of water. If you feel lightheaded, lay down for a bit and relax.
