If you leave it for a long period of time, it could cause many health issues for you and your family. Mold will grow mainly where it is moist. It will grow on organic materials such as wood, tile, paper materials and more. Having high humidity in your home can cause mold growth also. Usually around seventy percent humidity is where it can start forming. You can sometimes even find mold growing behind your dryer, if it is unvented. It can create a warm and very humid environment behind there. You can also look behind your furniture and if your paint is peeling off your walls, that could be an indicator of mold forming. If you think you have mold anywhere in your home, you should follow these helpful tips.

Tip #1: Be protected

Always use a mask, when working with hazordous material, such as mold. You can be extra safe by using a respirator, so that you do not breath in the mold spores. The mask and respirators will filter them out. Eye protection, gloves and old clothes are also recommended, before starting mold removal.

Tip #2: Dampen Everything

Before full removal, dampen the materials that are covered in mold. This is a helpful tip because if you do not, the airborn spores will go everywhere. So if you dampen the materials, it will lessen the chance of the spores to go airborne.

Tip #3: Scrub that mold away

Scrub the molded area with a mild, non ammonia detergent or soap. You do not want to use ammonia or bleach soaps, because of the fumes that can form. Mold that gets on your areas such as your counter tops, glass, hard plastic and metal, can usually be scrubbed clean with the detergents and soaps. However, some areas can be so overtaken by mold, that it can\’t be saved with just scrubbing. Materials such as drywall, sheetrock and your carpet padding should definitely be removed, if mold takes it over. It is recommended to throw out as soon as it is found.

Tip #4: Disinfect

Disinfecting the area with any type of disinfectant will get rid of any mold that was left behind when your were trying to clean it. It can also help from coming back. You just have to make sure that area is fully dried and stays that way.

Tip #5: Check your home often for mold. Make this a habit for your whole family. Finding mold sooner than later can fight against any sickness and can catch the problem before having to redo the whole area. The sooner you catch the problem, the less work you will have to do.

Tip #6: If you have had mold in your home before, you can always have your materials tested for mold. You can do this every few months to insure your home is not being overtaken by mold and it\’s nasty spores.

Mold in your home can be one tough and nasty problem. You should always be aware of these problems, when it comes to your home and family. Hopefully you can catch the mold before it has spread and you can get rid of mold quickly.
