The Best Cycling Spots in London

You love London. You love the energy, the lights, the sounds, and the smells of the city of London – there is nothing like it. London is a magical place that is just yearning to be explored by those that love it. Sure, walking and driving is a great way to experience what the city has to offer, but cycling around London is an experience that you won’t forget. In fact, cycling in London is something that you’ll probably fall in love with – especially if you know the right places to go. Get your bike ready to go – and get ready to experience the fresh open air and the swell of the road underneath you. If you’re new to cycling around London, we’ve compiled some fantastic spots in the area that you’ll want to explore as soon as possible.

Cycle Spot #1: Battersea Park:

There is so much busy, hurried activity in London, but this park is the perfect way to escape all of the hustle and bustle. Surrounded by green space, biking trails, walking space, fountain and more, this park is very large. Because of the sheer size of it, cycling is the perfect way to see it all while getting some exercise and fresh air. This ride is perfect for leisure.

Cycle Spot #2: Thames Cycle Path:

Much of this path is for foot traffic only, but there are several great spots that are good for cyclists. If you’re looking for a solid ride of about five miles, head to the Godstow Bridge to Oxford Ring Road. For shorter rides, check out the ride between the Staines Railway Bridge to Laleham (a little over 2 miles). There are also cycling paths between Reading Bridge to Thames Valley Park or from Thames Valley Park to Sonning.

Cycle Spot #3: Hyde Park:

This cycling spot is a must-do! Cycling around London\’s Hyde Park is a great way to enjoy a morning or afternoon ride, mainly because you’ll be able to take in all of the famous sights: the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, and Westminster Abbey. You can also see the royal landmarks of Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, as well as the Princess Diana Memorial.

Cycle Spot #4: Hampstead Heath:

There is a lot to experience here, including spacious ponds, views over London, and at the beginning, small shops and eateries. It is a pretty smooth ride with a few hills along the way, and after turning along some of the back roads, you’ll see a man-made pond, and soon after that, a secluded pergola and garden area. The path weaves you through areas of beautiful woodland and after a steep climb to the end, there is the option to climb to the top to Parliament Hill which will is an amazing view!

And while you’re enjoying the sites on your bike, remember to keep safe! With the beauty of London surrounding you, it’s easy to take your eyes off the path for longer than you should. Don’t get too distracted by the sights and sounds and forget about pedestrians that might be walking or miss important signs or stop signals. Be courteous to others on the road, just as you would in any other cycling area, being cautious of what the rules of the road are.

Cycling in London allows you to experience the thrill of the city in a way that you never could by car, bus, or subway. So, get your helmet out, strap on your shoes, hop on your bike, and get pedaling.
