If you want to host your web site at HostGator then you need to learn the cPanel interface provided by HostGator. In this article, I will talk about how to manage the cPanel account in HostGator.

Login to cPanel

The first thing you need to learn is that how to login to the cPanel. When you sign up with the HostGator hosting, you will get an email from HostGator. This email gives you information about username and password for HostGator login. It will also give you the URLs which you can use to login to the cPanel.

Generally, when you login to the HostGator, you need to give one domain name at the time of sign up. You can always access cPanel login using this domain name. You just need to append /cpanel at the end of your domain name to access the cPanel.

Add a New Domain

Now suppose that you have purchased a domain name through another domain name registrar and you have unlimited domain hosting plans at HostGator. You need to add this new domain to HostGator if you want to host it there.

Just use the following steps and you will be able to host another domain to your HostGator account.

1) Login to your cPanel account.

2) Click on Addon Domains under the domain section.

3) On this page, enter the domain name. Enter your FTP username. Enter the root directory. I prefer to use domain name as a root directory name and keep it under home directory. Enter the password, re-enter the password and click on Add Domain button. Now your new domain is added your hostgator account.

Enable SSH

SSH stands for Secure Shell. If you want to directly login to your server then you need to have a SSH account. By default, HostGator keeps SSH accounts disabled. So if you want to use SSH account then you need to get it enabled.

Just email the HostGator support team and they will enable SSH account for you. You can also enable SSH using chat support. They will ask for the verification details and enable SSH on your account.

Upload the File

If you want to upload a file to your server account then you need to use FTP account. By default, HostGator creates one FTP account with the same name as your cPanel account name. Now you can use that FTP account to upload the files. You just need to set up a FTP client. You can download any FTP client and use it.
