Beyond the Worst Case Scenerio: Anxiety Relief

Everyone experiences anxiety at some point in their life. But some people experience anxiety to such an extreme that it takes over their life and impairs their ability to function. But there are things that you can do to take control over anxiety and ease the hold that it has.

This article contains ways to help you cope with your anxiety. Before you hit the sheets at night, you should think about all of the great stuff that is occurring in your life right now. Do the same thing the following morning. You may believe that you do not have any good things happening in your life, but every single person can find something good in his or her life, even if it is something very small. Doing so can help to decrease your anxiety.

Find a visual or aural anchor that makes you feel calm or relaxed. Try to choose something abundant and ever-present, such as clouds or water. When you feel anxious, look to the sky or play a soothing track of flowing water on an mp3 player. These anchors can give you a focal point when you feel anxious and head off a full-blown panic attack.

If you are experiencing anxiety at work, which seems to be making it hard to get your job done, it may help to see a therapist. The therapist may help you to find out what it is that is causing you distress. It may be a co-worker, too much work to get done, or other job-related problems that can be easily fixed.

Self discipline allows you to better control your emotions. Emotional control is one way to achieve control over your anxiety. Do not let your negative emotions build up and cause you even more stress. Learn to detach yourself from these emotions and you will see things slowly improving.

Monitor your breathing when you get stressed. Your breaths get shorter, may vary, or even become erratic. Anxiety makes it tough to concentrate on breathing properly. However, we do need to consume the right amounts of food, water and air. Focus on your breathing when you are experiencing an anxiety attack.

Work on having good posture. Having bad posture compresses organs, cuts off circulation and shortens breathing. Many times, it is easy, even under a normal amount of anxiety, to sit in positions that cause harm to our body. Try not to do this, as this will better your health and help decrease the amount of anxiety you endure.

Anxieties are unavoidable, but when you are faced with a situation that makes you anxious, remember to take deep breaths. Breathe in like you are smelling a flower, and breathe out like you are trying to blow out a candle. This will give you more oxygen, slow your heartbeat and calm you down.

Don\’t sit still when anxiety is coming on. When you sit and brood about issues, your anxiety can spike quickly and leave you unable to function. At the onset of any anxious feelings, get up and get moving. Walk, run or exercise in some way. You will take your mind off the negative issues and allow your mind to reset.

Take some time to think about the things that are worrying you. Rigidly tell yourself throughout the day that you cannot focus on these things until the allotted time. Set aside 60 minutes for this purpose. Once you are at the end of the allotted time, return to the practice of shutting the thoughts out of your mind. This structured approach is a great form of control.

As previously stated, everyone experiences anxiety at some point in their life. But extreme anxiety that interferes with your enjoyment of life is not normal and must be dealt with. The advice and the tips from the above article can help you take charge of your anxiety and get back to the life you love.\”
