The Car Accident and Car Accident Attorney

One thing that I learned a little later in life, in my late 20’s, is that the best drivers can have accidents. I remember an ice storm in Indiana in 1999. I made it to work barely. There were some people from second shift calling in to say that they were going to make it. When there is ice, we don’t have that much work anyway. Most companies that deliver can’t make it. We canceled second shift and a few folks complained that their superior driving skills would get them to work. We already had one car totaled that morning. My only point on this information is that the best defensive driver cannot control the drivers around them.

Some months ago, my wife and kids took a trip. There is not a lot of traffic on that route but it takes a long time because some of the roads are winding. It takes about 4 hours to travel about 2 hours worth of miles. It seems that weekend of events caused a trend of accidents. As they were driving home, they were in an accident that totaled the vehicle. One thing that we have that is unique these days is distractions. There are a lot of drivers that feel that texting and talking are a part of driving. We all see this everywhere. It is more important to respond to a text than realize we are driving 70 mph on the freeway. 10 years ago there was no talking or texting when driving. The biggest distraction may have been eating a burger or putting on make up. These are still distractions to our driving duties.

You realize the impact of a car accident immediately after it happens. I am not just talking about the medical or damages to the vehicle. I am simply talking about the impact mentally. You go from comfortably driving every day to not wanting to drive at all. Driving down the block brings on worries of having another accident which makes you more cautious. It seems that you continue to have accident flashbacks. This is pretty horrible but real life.

One of the fews ways to get back into driving is to drive. It doesn’t mean that you can’t get counseling or some other type of productive help. In the end, you have to drive. Remember, you still have to go to work. You still have to pick up your kids from school. The duties of constant driving do not go away.

I don’t have any answers to what I wrote above as each driver is different. For some, it is simply one incident. We can just drive on to our next objective. For others, it is fairly traumatic. It may affect some drivers for months or even years. All you can do is be the best defensive driver you can be. You cannot affect the other drivers. There are times of day and night where it is safer to drive. Driving Saturday night after the bars close may not be the best time to drive.

My only discovery with this message is stay defensive when driving. I have seen accidents every day for the last two weeks. I am just thankful to not be in the middle of one.
