Superdry is a fast up and coming designer brand in the UK with a multi-channel business ranging from retail to wholesale including online sales. Founded in 1985 the business has been developed to sell quality women’s and men’s clothing together with their own brands including the ‘Cult’ brand name. Recognised worldwide Superdry products are sold in over 20 countries.

Products range from Superdry t shirts, jeans, jackets, hoodies, shirts and much more. Recently Superdry has opened a string of stores in the UK and seen sales soar 60%, recent store opening are based in Lakeside, Thurrock and Essex bringing a total of 47 flagship stores in the UK. Takings for business are now said to be around the thirty three million pound mark. It seems Superdry are also ready to open another 7 stores in the UK alone just before the Christmas period.

Their worldwide expansion seems to be running quite well due to the amount of franchises they are opening worldwide. Well back to their clothing range, Julian Dunkerton the founder of Superdry states he did not want to follow other fashion trends that are spilled out into the market like Primark, Topshop, and H&M and the likes keep creating.

The Superdry philosophy is to make better designed and more interesting clothing. They take vintage American clothing like lumber jack shirts and leather jackets and add Japanese styling and imagery to them. They then give the cloth a professional cut and price it mid range from the fast fashion shops to the larger designer brands out there like Armani.

The Superdry t shirts are very unique and even the cloth used are of quality materials. With reasonable pricing and its own trend in mind Julian has definitely stepped up the mark in the fashion branded clothing industry. It is clear that his hard work has gone into this as Julian started off his business on a market stall and is now today considered within the super rich league. Superdry as a company is worth nearly three hundred and ten million pound with Julian holding a 33% stake in the business.

The Superdry brand has been boosted by major celebrities like David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Helena Christensen. It is said that David Beckham is very much responsible for the brands popularity as he has been seen on a number of occasion sporting wears of the brand. Superdry has capitalised on the brand and the popularity to celebs to build it business and expects even further business success in the coming years. It clothing can be found in many retail stores as well as its own and now their clothing is selling in the masses through online retail channels. With the current economic climate many in the retail fashion industry are complaining, however it seems that Superdry remain defiant in the recession. Strong words from Julian recently where he stated retailers should stop whinging as this is not as bad as the recession in the 80s. Superdry originated in Cheltenham.
