What is Involved in a Master of Computer Application Course

Every country has different degrees and certificates available that are often very helpful in securing employment in certain fields. There are associates’ degrees, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and PhD’s in varying topics across the board. If a person is seeking a career in computer software design or engineering, he or she would want to study as much as they can and earn a quality degree so they could get a good job. In India, a person could take a Master of Computer Application (MCA) course in order to earn this specified degree.

There is a great deal of work that can be involved in going towards this degree. First, those applying to a school for this degree are required to have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics before they can even go forward. Without this degree, you cannot get accepted into a program for an MCA. Once you have your bachelor’s degree, then you can consider moving on to the next step.

Once you have decided to go for this degree, it should be understood that you are undertaking a great deal of course work each semester. The degree itself is designed to take three years to complete. Each year consist of two semesters of specially selected classes. There are also laboratories involved where studies are put into practice each semester.

Each semester is comprised of six courses of its own to go along with the labs that need to be taken. It is an intense amount of classwork to be completed in one semester, but those who are dedicated to getting this degree are willing to work for it. You could expect to spend a great deal of time involved in studying each semester.

Naturally, the classes build off one another each semester. The first semester’s classes are typically general information classes like accounting, mathematics, probability and statistics, just to name a few. You also learn some basic computer application architecture and some programming in C. This all gives you a good basis to go forward.

Subsequent semesters lead to more difficult coursework, involving classes such as object oriented design, data structures, systems programming, Java programming, web engineering, software engineering and more. By the time you reach your fifth semester, you are allowed to take two elective courses to go with the courses involved in the semester. Electives could be in classes like cloud computing or human resources management.

The final semester is reserved for the seminar project. This semester involves working in industry and developing a software system. The entire semester is spent on this project to lead to graduation.

Taking a master of computer application course can be time-consuming and challenging work. The results of the three years of hard study can be quite rewarding when you finally get that diploma and accreditation. A degree such as this can lead to high profile jobs in development of web applications, Windows applications or other software and systems applications. The hard work can pay off in a fulfilling career.
