State Governments Should be Eliminated Says Jamie McIntyre

State Governments Should be Eliminated says Jamie McIntyre

The need to eliminate the state government is an opinion becoming vastly popular in Australia.

According to the third biennial constitutional values survey, two-thirds of Australians do not believe that the state and federal governments are working well together, with confidence in the federal government as the most effective level of government falling from 50 per cent in 2008 to 29 per cent.

The findings, published in The Australian, also revealed that 38 per cent of Australians believe the federal system is not working, as opposed to just over 30 per cent in 2008. The resentment seems highest in ACT 57.4 per cent followed by NSW 45.5 per cent.

Jamie McIntyre, a self-made millionaire, entrepreneur and media proprietor, also believes that state government is an unnecessary tier to the government.

Mr McIntyre said “Why do we need them? They’re costly and ineffective. Why should we carry the massive costs of 3 layers of Government? Not to mention the extra administrative burdens on business as well as additional taxes and inefficiencies.

‘Education, transport, health and infrastructure should not be state based systems; they should be federal and singular nationwide systems. The states are all united to be a part of one country,” he said.

The Griffith University research also reveals that 45.5 per cent of the Australian population does not trust the state government.

Abolish State Collectives or ASC is an organisation propagating a change in the federal system with the abolition of state governments which according to their perspective will result in a strong national government and local council.

In an article stating their views, ASC writes:

“We believe that state governments are divisive, the source of destructive ‘bidding wars’ and ‘buck-passing’, wasteful in their duplication, and an enormous cost burden generally which Australia can ill afford in an increasingly competitive world.”

Even Mr McIntyre agrees that currently the government is flushing down enormous amounts of money with the existent political system.

“Think about how much time and money will be saved! We’re talking Billions per month. We can have State appointed ministers to represent the interests of each state instead. And I’m sure no one will be upset about fewer politicians and less elections to vote in”.

It is becoming a widespread opinion that the elaborate state government is a waste of tax-payers’ money, resulting in the loss of funds that could be directed towards more development for the country.

Moreover, the recent political scenario has been a reality show drama of political bickering thus steering away focus from policy and concentrating on politicians instead. Fewer politicians and elections will hopefully help highlight the significance of policy rather than differences between people in power.

Jamie McIntyre advocates a new 21st Century Political system where voters should vote directly on major policy online thus removing the need for political parties

Imagine with just these two changes- the elimination of state governments and voters voting online directly for major policy will help achieve rapid progress of Australia says McIntyre

A superfluous and bureaucratic system complicates effective strategising as the state and federal government keep disagreeing on issues.

Federalism project director A. J. Brown, a professor of public law, says that unless the structure of government is addressed seriously, the inevitable result of current trends is that the states will continue withering away as effective partners in the federation.
