“Choosing Your Cold Weather Workout for Home”

If you live somewhere which reaches freezing temperatures, snows, hails, or is too windy for taking an outdoor run, it may be time to move your exercising indoors! Buying gym memberships can be incredibly expensive, and lock you into contracts which last for years.

Getting in shape at home is a much better alternative to either throwing money down the drain, or taking a seasonal exercise hiatus. Here are some ideas that can keep you moving and staying warm in the comfort of your home.

Obviously some people continue outdoor workouts no matter what the weather. If you’re one of those people, more power to you-if you’re not, getting out occasionally can lift your spirits, even if it’s cold outside.

Plan to get outside at least once every couple of weeks or so, and make it more comfortable by using these tips for staying warm and dry. They will keep you working out in the cold, but not the harshest of weather.

First, dress in layers. Wearing layers allows you stay warm while giving you the option to remove layers as you get warm.

For very cold weather, you might choose clothes with sweat-wicking qualities such as CoolMax. You can find these at any athletic or sports store, or retail stores which have an athletic section.

Next, avoid the wind. One tip is to start your walk into the wind so you will finish with it at your back.

Other things that will make your outside journey better are selecting routes that are sheltered from the wind where possible, and that are cleared of snow or ice or do not have standing puddles or mud slicks. This will protect you from twisted ankles, or worse.

Last, warm up inside. Getting outside in the cold is much easier if you’re already warm.

Try throwing your clothes in the dryer, running your hands under warm water, or even getting a good ten minute warm up in before you head outside. This will get your blood pumping more effectively to warm your body.

If going outside is not something you want to do, here are some things to try indoors. If you have a treadmill, elliptical, exercise bike or other type of cardio machine at home, try a DVD cardio workout to help you stay motivated and keep your workouts interesting and fun.

These workouts are challenging and require no equipment. Put on some music and get moving.

Another great idea is to try yoga, Pilates, and other strength training at home to get in shape. This will help to tone your muscles, strengthen your core, and increase your flexibility.

Yoga on the ball is a great way to get support for basic yoga poses while building flexibility, strength and promoting relaxation. Get step by step instructions online for how to do yoga poses on an exercise ball.

If you work long hours at a computer, you’ll enjoy a relaxing yoga workout you can do right at your desk. There are DVDs which are made for those who can only workout in the office-you can find these an any exercise store.

Pilates is a great way to work those abs, as well as increase strength and flexibility. Check out the best Pilates videos on the market and get yourself working toward the abs and arms you have always wanted.

If the weather gets nasty, and you are tired of being indoors, the gym is a Levitra Professional great choice for more options and lots of great people-watching…not a bad way to while away your exercise time. Many people hate moving their training indoors when it gets to be too chilly for a morning run, but it doesn’t have to be mind-numbing.

Take the treadmill, for example. You could hop on the belt, set the speed at 4.0 mph and go for a thirty minute walk to nowhere.

Another idea is to try group exercise classes like spinning, step aerobics or kickboxing. Not only will you burn some calories and manage your weight, you might end up having fun-fitness classes are also a great place to meet other exercisers to help keep you motivated.

A bonus of working out in the gym is having everything at your disposal. Once you’re done with your cardio, you can strength train, stretch and even hit the hot tub before you head home.

As you can see there are plenty of ways to stay in shape during the nasty winter months. Be creative, stay warm, and keep your body active!
