Medical Lies Hazardous To The Health

A few years ago, a prestigious medical school’s associate professor got shocked from learning that he will be forcefully removed from his post as stated by the US health care company.

He knew that it was due to his open tirades against these HMOs that he was forcefully let go even if they did not give him any reason on why he was suddenly fired.

He was constantly criticizing the fact that these HMOs, along with others who only go for profit and undermines the care the patients badly need by even rewarding physicians who decline the needed care and also by making them sign gag clauses stipulated in every standard contract by this HMO.

What it stipulates is that the doctor must agree to not taking any form of action or any communication that might dissuade enrollees, potential clients, their employers, union groups or the quality of the coverage of service and that the doctor must keep these information and agreement under high confidentiality.

In other words, a doctor can easily be terminated upon saying some things to his patient that an HMO won’t approve of.

With this abhorrent health service scenario, which only goes for maximizing their profits, physicians are forced to withhold the true diagnoses, prognoses and other cure options available for their patients.

All because these physicians are muzzled, just think about how real these scenes could soon become.

In the mammogram results of a 49-year-old woman, a mysterious shadow appears. the negative finding troubled the woman’s doctor and so, he would want to order another test to make sure that the result was just because of a machine error, as to disregard the cancer- positive result.

The predicament here is that the HMO will not pay for it. The quality of care the HMO gives to its patients could be criticized by recommending a second mammogram for themselves.

The doctor prescribed the patient to be back after six months. It is indeed sad to say that she may be in a critical condition in that six months if she really has cancer in her breast.

An operation Brand Viagra must be made to the 60-year-old man in order to relieve the obstruction caused by the enlarged prostate.

His surgeon would like to consider using a new laser technique that produces less blood loss, pain and risk of infection or impotence.

The truth is that the HMO of the patient will only be used for invasive operation that holds many more consequences.

The surgeon could be fired if he insists to his patient to undergo the new surgery and persuade in order to ask permission from the HMO.

A 35-year-old lady is reportedly suffering from depression. The woman’s doctor thought of prescribing a specific brand of medication that has few side effects and no risk of death from an excessive self administered dose.

But then the HMO has agreed to push for the drug that has plenty of side effects as well as high chance of death from an overdose.

Purchasing the better brand by herself is suggested by the doctor. It is just a shame that the contract he signed prevents him from saying anything.

Building better and clear decisions could be seen in those patients who received sound and clear information.

To stay in tune with the extremely complex and ever-changing medical spectrum, patients will rely on their doctors’ information.

If these doctors cannot be transparent to their patients, their patient cannot hope to control their fate in health care.

Given this kind of scenario, it is certainly not wise for the patients to hang on to what their doctors are telling them.

A ballot initiative undertaken by California’s nurses associations and consumer watchdog association will lead to the end of these gag orders.

Patients under HMOs can now consult their doctors via their professional organizations, legislation and through education of the masses.

The courageous example of this doctor who got fired from the company because of his criticisms against their policy should be followed by other people.

As soon as he got his contract on health care, he crossed out the gag clause before returning it.

The Hippocratic Oath stands for physicians upholding the health of their patients to their greatest capabilities and judgment, and that they must never cause harm to another person, but the gag orders found in HMO contracts contradict.

Why do some doctors commit an ill by entering into an oath that puts his patients? health at risk when he had entered into the Hippocratic Oath?
