An Overview at Engineering School

Engineering basically is the use of locally available materials by man to make his life easier. To do this, engineering uses sciences, physics and the laws of nature such as gravitational forces, inertia and so on. To qualify as an engineer, you must be registered by the relevant bodies in your country and graduate with a bachelors degree form a recognized university. A typical technology or engineering school in most countries would mainly teach mathematics and physics based units.

There are several branches of engineering such as electrical, mechanical, chemical and so on. Apart from the degree level of education; one can acquire a diploma, a dip tech or bachelor of technology in this field and work as a technician.

The engineering field is very wide, for the purpose of elaboration; electrical engineering will be focused on. Basically, electrical engineers are charged with simply designing and maintaining electrical systems to make man\’s life easier. This field is divides into a number of disciplines such as electronics, telecommunication, power, control and instrumentation engineering.

Telecommunication engineering: This branch deals mostly with transmission, design and maintenance of signals and signal devices. Most signals travel through electromagnetic waves. Understanding of signal processing and transmission lines is very important in this field. A typical example of telecommunication is the transfer of information from your cell phone to your friend\’s cell phone.

Power electronics: This branch mainly deals with the generation and transmission of electricity. It also deals with the design and maintenances of devices associated with the production and transmission of electricity such as generators, transformers, power switches and so on. An expert in this field is able to come up with devices that can generate electricity and maintain them.

Control and instrumentation: This branch basically deals with automation of systems so that everything is automatic. For example, in a factory, you can come up with robots that you will use to make work easier and more efficient. These systems would ideally be designed by experts in the field of control and instrumentation. Many companies have their entire system automated for effectiveness and efficiency.

Electronics: An expert in electronics mostly deals with the electrical components of an electric device. For example, they would be able to tell you the problem with your radio or telephone. Most of these people work at stations called clean rooms. It the clean rooms, they would come up with electrical components such as miniaturized integrated circuits, transistors, diodes and so on.

Typically, a degree in this discipline will take you five years to complete. Diploma level would take about three years in most countries. In the course outline, the students are expected to train on workshop practice, and go for an internship at a relevant company for one semester before they graduate.

Mastering this field is not easy; it takes hard work and determination to succeed in. To pursue it, you must have a passion for mathematics and physics. Most students in technology or engineering school are problem solvers, they able to analyze a problem and come up with a solution.
