After 2009’s near entry into the Super Bowl – the Jets lost to the Colts in the AFC Championship – you could hardly blame New York fans for having high hopes for the 2010 season. After all, the team is essentially right where it needs to be to make a championship run, as they return almost all of their best players for the new campaign, and need only to add depth to guard against injury. As a result, the Jets’ 2010 Draft was geared primarily toward selecting the best players they could in each round. While none of their picks is likely to change the team’s fortunes dramatically, all are solid enough players to contribute to the already successful infrastructure of the team.

Kyle Wilson

In the NFL, having good corners – and a lot of them – is never a bad thing. The Jets were able to pick up one of those corners by selecting Kyle Wilson, whose college days were spent playing a lot of nickel defense. As most Jets fans know, the team uses the Nickel and Dime defenses on a frequent basis, so Wilson should fit in nicely. In fact, he is likely to see some limited action in his rookie season.

Not the Impaler

Forget about that Dracula guy – the Vlad you should be watching out for is Outside Tackle Vlad Ducasse. The 330 pound Ducasse is a fairly well known quantity who is more than capable of pancaking most defenders who line up against him. Will he be a dominant force? Obviously, not right away, but then again he doesn’t need to be. The Jets are solid enough on offense to work him into the rotation as needed.

Overall, the Jets used the Draft of 2010 to pick up some project prospects with which they will have plenty of time to work. And while they did little to address the defects on their defensive line, they will surely be able to plug any holes by signing free agents and undrafted players. If the team is able to regain its swagger from 2009, this could be another big year for New York.
