New York Jets Tickets – Ferguson Reportedly Signs New Contract

Every offseason, a large group of players look to secure new contracts or contract extensions with their respective teams. The 2010 offseason, however, is different than others. The 2011 season is set to be an uncapped year if players and owners can’t agree to a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and that situation seems like a distinct possibility at this point. The New York Jets have a handful of players who are looking for new contracts like offensive tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson, cornerback Darrelle Revis, center Nick Mangold and linebacker David Harris.

The NFL’s website has reported that the team has locked Tadacip in at least one of the veterans by signing Ferguson to a new deal. Ferguson had only one year left on his current contract with another option year, but his new deal locks him in for six years for a $60 million payout. The new total puts him on the same level as other top offensive linemen in the league. Ferguson didn’t make much of a ruckus in his quest for a new contract, which is perhaps why the Jets chose to work with him first out of all of the players waiting for contracts. Ferguson has been with the Jets since he entered the league in 2006. Since then, he has started every regular season game.

2010 brings in new faces for the Jets, and some of whom were already stars in the NFL before suiting up in green and white. One such addition is running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who is known for his time with the San Diego Chargers and has signed a two-year deal with the Jets. According to ESPN, Tomlinson showed his loyalty to the team by inking the team’s logo on his calf along with “2010 – ” which shows his open-ended commitment to the team. The tattoo matches one he has of the Chargers’ logo with 2001-2010 underneath. Tomlinson also said that he has a plan to help the Jets reach the Super Bowl during his tenure with the team.

Another veteran star to join the team is perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Jason Taylor. Taylor forged his career while with the Miami Dolphins, but he was cast off by the Dolphins after the 2009 season. Fans came out to see him play at a recent minicamp, and turned their boos to cheers after seeing him play live, according to ESPN. Last season, Jason Taylor tallied 42 tackles, five passes defended, seven sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception. In his career, he has tallied 72 tackles, 86 passes defended, 127.5 sacks, 44 forced fumbles, eight interceptions and three touchdowns.

Fans who want an even deeper inside look into the workings of the Jets’ franchise will want to check out head coach Rex Ryan’s new book. It is due out in the spring of 2011, and ESPN reports the book will “combine autobiography and football strategy.” His strategy will also appear on the HBO series about training camp called Hard Knocks. Of course, the best way to see the team is to catch a game live. Fans can find New York Jets tickets online today.
